Roles & Responsibilities We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Database Support Engineer to oversee global database operations within Availity s AWS-hosted ecosystem. This role serves as the onshore lead and primary escalation point for critical incidents, ensuring reliability, security, and performance across mission-critical healthcare data platforms. You will drive automation, compliance, and cost optimization initiatives while collaborating with offshore teams in a follow-the- support model. As a strategic leader, you will mentor team members, enforce best practices, and partner with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing database solutions that support Availity s transformation from an Oracle-centric environment to modern, cloud-native architecture.
What you will be doing:
- Leadership & Strategy: Act as the lead for database operations, setting standards and driving strategic initiatives for reliability and scalability.
- Incident Management: Serve as the primary escalation point for critical incidents; lead root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
- Automation & Optimization: Drive automation for monitoring, patching, and failover; implement performance tuning and query optimization strategies.
- Cost Governance: Develop and execute cost optimization strategies (Reserved Instances, right-sizing, FinOps practices).
- Security & Compliance: Partner with security teams to enforce IAM policies, encryption, and audit readiness; ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with offshore teams for seamless handoffs in a follow-the- model; engage with application teams and cloud architects.
- Documentation: Maintain SOPs, runbooks, and compliance artefacts for operational excellence.
- Mentorship: Guide and mentor team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Innovation: Evaluate emerging AWS database services and recommend adoption for business benefit.
- Handover : Responsible for smoothly transferring tasks and collaborating closely with the US Lead to ensure operational continuity.
Requirements:
- 8+ years in database administration with at least 3+ years in AWS ecosystem.
- Proven leadership experience in global database operations.
- Advanced expertise in AWS RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, and Redshift.
- Strong SQL and NoSQL proficiency.
- Familiarity with DevOps principles and CI/CD integration.
- Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar).
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional or Database Specialty preferred.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-time-zone collaboration skills.

- Knowledge of cost governance tools and FinOps practices.
- Exposure to containerized workloads (ECS/EKS) and database integration.
