Job Description

  • An Import Executive is responsible for managing the company's import and export processes, which includes handling all necessary documentation, coordinating with logistics partners like freight forwarders, and ensuring compliance with customs regulations. Key duties involve tracking shipments, communicating with suppliers and clients, and maintaining accurate records of all import transactions.

Key responsibilities

  • Documentation: Prepare, manage, and process all necessary import and export documents, including bills of lading, customs declarations, and invoices.
  • Logistics coordination: Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines, and customs brokers to ensure the timely and smooth movement of goods.
  • Compliance: Ensure all import and export activities comply with relevant national and international laws, tariffs, and customs regulations, including knowledge of HS codes and specific agency requirements.
  • Shipment tracking: Monitor and track shipments from origin to destination, and handle any issues or delays that may arise.
  • Supplier and client communication: Act as a point of contact for suppliers and clients, providing status updates and resolving any discrepancies or inquiries.
  • Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of all import/export transactions for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Process improvement: Identify areas for improvement in the import process and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Required qualifications and skills

  • Education: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in International Business, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience in import/export operations, logistics, or a similar role is crucial.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of customs regulations, international trade laws, tariffs, and required import/export procedures (for both air and sea freight) is essential.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in preparing and managing shipping documents, and potentially familiarity with specific software for imports, customs, and shipping.
  • Soft skills: Excellent communication skills for coordinating with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail are also critical.
