Head Safety

Purpose/Objective

The Head - Safety is responsible for leading and overseeing the safety operations across the business. This role ensures adherence to regulatory compliance, promotes a culture of safety, and strategically manages safety initiatives, training programs, emergency preparedness, and budgetary requirements. The Head - Safety will work closely with senior management to drive safety performance, implement strategic safety plans, and enhance safety standards across all operational areas.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Head Safety Safety Operations Management: Develop and maintain personal and departmental safety plans, including SOPs, emergency management plans, and safety manuals. Lead occupational health and fire safety audits to ensure compliance with the statutory norms (factories rule) Assign and monitor fire prevention/firefighting duties, supervise firefighting operations and ensure the availability and standards of safety equipment. Perform investigations and root cause analysis (RCA) for safety incidents, review associated reports, and present corrective action plans. Conduct job-specific safety reviews, including Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) and HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment). Participate in safety committee meetings at both site and corporate levels including Apex Safety Committee and HSE committee, review safety audit non-compliance reports (NCRs) and ensure timely resolution. Ensure the updating of daily safety observations on GENSUITE systems. Spearhead safety awareness sessions in schools, colleges, slums, NGOs as part of corporate social responsibility initiatives. Conduct safety awareness trainings for premium customers on specific fire and electrical hazards. Emergency Preparedness and Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, conducting regular drills to ensure readiness. Plan resource allocation for shutdowns, safety inspections, and permit releases. Lead site-level fire and safety initiatives such as Safety Week and Fire Week. Monitor and review mock drills and review emergency management plans, SOPs, and manuals. Facilitate industrial hygiene surveys, both internally and with external parties, to ensure workplace safety. Fire Safety Management: Ensure the implementation and maintenance of fire safety equipment, including detection and suppression systems. Ensure compliance with the National Building Code and coordinate with third-party agencies for fire safety equipment maintenance. Oversee fire safety audits, inspections, and coordinate with vendors for necessary actions. Compile and report critical observations related to fire safety across all facilities. Respond to rescue/fire calls during emergencies and manage control room operations. Oversee the refilling and maintenance of fire extinguishers and maintain records of equipment status. Incident and Risk Management: Lead the recording, reporting, and investigation of all safety incidents, concerns, and near-misses. Implement and monitor corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) based on incident reports and root cause analysis. Manage the availability and usage of PPEs by staff and workers. Conduct Safety Interaction (SI), Visual Safety Risk Assessments (VSRA), and Critical Vulnerability Analysis (CVA). Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety codes, Maharashtra Factory Rules, IEEE, IEC, and other relevant regulations. Oversee compliance with Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act, Battery Act, Waste Management, and SMPB rules. Implement and support Social Accountability (SA 8000), ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 55001, ISO 50001, Business Excellence (Bex), and AWMS. Coordinate with external authorities such as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the fire department. Budget Management: Monitor CAPEX and OPEX data for safety-related expenditures. Manage the procurement process for safety equipment and materials, including raising Purchase Requisitions (PR) and coordinating with Techno Commercial Team. Digitization and Automation: Maintain and upgrade the Safety Network & Feedback System (SNFS) portal. Develop new safety apps and integrate Visual Safety Risk Assessment (VSRA) in the Safety App People and Team Engagement: Develop and implement training programs for site-level employees, coordinating with the training department. Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualification: BE/B.Tech Degree (any) and mandatory Advanced/Post Diploma in Industrial Safety. Work Experience (Range of years): 15-20 years Preferred Industry: Experience in fire safety management and operations within the power or heavy industry sector.
