Set the direction for Buildings MEP team in India

We’re looking for someone who knows buildings inside out—especially the mechanical side. You’ll be heading a growing MEP team in Chennai, working with smart people across borders, and shaping how we deliver mechanical engineering and BIM services. You’ll need to be technically solid, good with people, and ready to make decisions that matter.

Your ability to promote and maintain a balanced culture within the team by living the COWI values will be the cornerstone for effective delivery of projects being undertaken in the team. You are expected to participate in the development and empowerment of team members, to fulfil their potential. The team is expected to grow through delivery of high-quality services within Mechanical engineering and BIM (Building Information Modelling).

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Manage and supervise a diverse team of engineers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to create a positive work environment.
  • Contribute directly to project delivery as a technical specialist in your field, providing high-quality engineering input and technical leadership alongside your managerial responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within COWI's building network to grow the pipeline of work and to enhance the opportunities for repeated business.
  • Develop the professional skills of the team in collaboration with other line managers and specialists including setting goals and milestones for your team aligned with COWI's strategy.
  • Manage and plan resource allocation between projects, by setting the right project teams - both for the projects, and the personal development of the team members.
  • Oversee organizational and staff related matters for the team, including recruitment.

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.

Like us, you believe that leadership effectiveness comes from setting a clear direction for your team and supporting them in taking ownership of their work. You delegate responsibility and ensure an open and safe dialogue, and you coach your people to realize their aspirations through constructive feedback. Attracting a diverse group of high-potential team members is at the top of your agenda, as is creating an inclusive, respectful, and trusting culture in your team.

You hold a relevant master's degree or higher in mechanical engineering. You should have 10+ years of experience working on large scale multi-disciplinary building projects.

Furthermore, you should have:

  • Deep technical knowledge in mechanical engineering applications for buildings, such as HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • A comprehensive understanding of engineering consulting, including project management, technical proficiency, and client services.
  • Previous experience leading teams on projects or as line manager, coordinating effectively.
  • Focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Previous exposure to the international market within buildings.
  • Proficiency level in English relevant to projects and client base.

A place to work and so much more.
