Purpose/Objective


    The Head - Engineering Substation-Tx is responsible for all substation-related engineering functions, driving operational efficiency and delivering safe, cost-effective, and compliant engineering solutions. This role oversees the creation, review, and approval of engineering documentation, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The SS Head supports Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and project teams, fosters a culture of innovation, and contributes to the continuous improvement of substation reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities of Role


    Head - Engineering Substation-Tx Pre-Bid and Estimation Support: Strengthen Competitive Bidding by collaborating with the pre-bid team to deliver accurate and compliant substation engineering documentation, drawings, and Bill of Quantities (BOQs) that meet project timelines and technical requirements. Support Cost Efficiency in Project Execution by guiding the estimation team in preparing detailed cost analyses and reliable estimates during pre-bid stages, ensuring project proposals are competitive and financially sound. Enhance Accuracy in Estimation by providing precise engineering inputs, including site assessments and design adjustments, which increase bid success and maintain alignment with cost-efficiency goals and project budget. Design and Optimization: Ensure High-Quality Design Standards by leading substation design activities, reviewing all engineering documents for compliance with IS, IEEE, CBIP, CEA, and IEC standards, and maintaining alignment with project specifications and regulatory requirements. Drive Cost-Effective Design Solutions by identifying and implementing design improvements that optimize substation layout, reduce material costs, and extend asset lifespan, without compromising quality or safety. Increase Design Precision and Efficiency by integrating advanced engineering software and tools like ETAP and AutoCAD Electrical, which enhance the accuracy and speed of substation design activities. Enhance Structural Integrity by performing detailed load calculations, earthing, and grounding designs that ensure substation components withstand operational stress and environmental factors. Engineering and Execution: Achieve Operational Reliability by integrating the latest engineering technologies and adhering to technical specifications, ensuring substation performance meets safety, compliance, and reliability standards. Reduce Downtime and Improve Maintenance Efficiency by providing O&M teams with robust technical support, conducting root cause analyses for any system malfunctions, and implementing proactive maintenance strategies to ensure substation reliability. Support On-Time Project Delivery by collaborating with cross-functional teams to expedite drawing and layout approvals, coordinating with site management to streamline execution, and ensuring milestones are met across the project lifecycle. Facilitate Successful Commissioning by overseeing engineering documentation and testing protocols for substation systems, ensuring they are prepared to handle operational requirements and receive regulatory approval. Technology and Innovation: Enhance Engineering Capabilities by championing the use of advanced technologies, such as AI-driven design tools and real-time monitoring software, which streamline substation design, enhance data accuracy, and improve project timelines. Encourage Adoption of New Technologies by setting measurable targets for implementing software and tools like AutoCAD, PLS CADD, and ETAP across teams, evaluating their impact on engineering outcomes, and refining practices accordingly. Implement Data-Driven Decision Making by leveraging digital tools for performance tracking and predictive analytics, enabling proactive adjustments to maintain safety, performance, and compliance standards. Drive Continuous Innovation by benchmarking engineering practices against industry leaders, engaging in professional networks, and integrating best practices that improve project quality, efficiency, and competitiveness. Risk Management: Lead the execution of risk mitigation strategies within their respective segments, working closely with project managers and safety teams to ensure alignment with the overall engineering risk management plan. Foster a proactive risk-aware culture by encouraging team members to report potential risks, leading to early identification and collaborative problem-solving that enhances project outcomes and minimizes disruptions. Stakeholder Management: Ensure Effective Collaboration by fostering strong working relationships between engineering, procurement, project management, and O&M teams, promoting seamless communication to keep substation projects on track. Strengthen External Stakeholder Trust by developing open communication channels with regulatory bodies, clients, and contractors, providing consistent project updates, and promptly addressing any issues. Facilitate Transparent Project Updates by leading regular meetings and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, communicating project progress, challenges, and critical milestones effectively. Team Management: Enhance team performance by leading and managing the team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Support professional development by mentoring and developing team members, providing technical guidance and feedback. Ensure team alignment with project goals by monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with company standards. Qualifications and Experience


    Educational Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical or Civil Engineering. Master’s (M.E. / M. Tech.) degree is preferred. Work Experience (Range of years): 10-15 years of experience in substation engineering, Previous experience managing a team of engineers and driving both cost and reliability-focused engineering solutions. Experience with different types of substations, including Outdoor (Air) and Gas (Indoor) substations. In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution and substation design, and experience working with standards such as IS, IEEE, CBIP, CEA, IEC.
