Job Purpose
The Personal Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of company accounts and tax returns. The role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail and good organisational skills to manage multiple deadlines. This position supports the Client Portfolio Lead by ensuring high-quality work is delivered consistently.

Duties & Responsibilities
Accounts and tax preparation:
- Prepare accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies in accordance with accounting standards
- Produce corporation tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC requirements
- Process personal tax returns, including income from employment, self-employment, property, and investments
- Review bookkeeping data to ensure completeness and reconcile figures before accounts and tax preparation
Compliance And Quality Control
- Ensure all accounts and tax returns are completed within internal deadlines and filing dates
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
- Apply quality control measures to ensure work is accurate and properly documented before submission for review
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with bookkeepers and other team members to ensure all required information is available for accounts and tax processing
- Escalate technical queries or complex issues to the Client Portfolio Lead
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities for improving workflows and to improve accuracy within accounts and tax preparation
- Support the implementation of new tools or practices to enhance efficiency
General Administration
- Maintain complete and accurate records within internal systems
- Assist with ad hoc tasks as required to support the delivery of compliance work
Key Success Factors
- Accurate and timely delivery of accounts and tax returns
- Compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation and internal procedures
- Effective collaboration with team members to ensure smooth workflow and accurate outputs
- Demonstrated improvement in efficiency and accuracy of accounts and tax processes
Required Skills & Experience
- Semi qualified CA (not mandatory) with 3+ years relevant experience
- Proven experience in bookkeeping, tax preparation, and/or accounts production within an accountancy practice
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, compliance requirements, and financial reporting processes
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Proactive problem-solver with a focus on delivering high-quality work
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team
- Adaptable to changing priorities or deadlines while maintaining professionalism
- Flexibility to occasionally work extended hours during peak periods or deadlines.
