Job Description

General Manager : Finance & Accounts 


Role Summary

This role leads the organization’s general ledger, balance sheet governance, and month-end closure processes to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls. The role acts as a strategic finance leader who partners with cross-functional teams, strengthens financial discipline, and drives continuous improvement in accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Balance Sheet Ownership & Governance

•          Own the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the company’s balance sheet.
•          Lead periodic balance sheet reviews with CFO and business stakeholders.•          Ensure timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts with zero long-pending items.•          Build a culture of control, compliance, and transparency across financial statements.

2. General Ledger Management

•          Oversee all GL accounting activities including journal entries, accruals, provisions, and closing entries.
•          Drive monthly, quarterly, and annual closures ensuring accuracy and meeting reporting timelines.•          Review and approve complex accounting entries as per Ind AS / IFRS standards.

3. Compliance, Audit & Controls

•          Lead internal and external audit requirements related to GL and balance sheet.
•          Ensure statutory compliance, adherence to accounting standards, and policy governance.•          Strengthen internal financial controls (IFC) and proactively identify control gaps.•          Maintain updated documentation, SOPs, and accounting policies.

4. Process Improvements & Automation

•          Drive automation initiatives in GL, reconciliations, and balance sheet reporting.
•          Implement best-in-class accounting workflows using ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / Workday).•          Improve the speed and accuracy of month-end close through process optimization.

5. Stakeholder Management

•          Collaborate closely with FP&A, AP, AR, Treasury, Tax, and Business Finance teams.
•          Provide insights and analytics on balance sheet movements, trends, and risks.•          Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO on accounting matters.

6. Team Leadership

•          Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing GL and reconciliations team.
•          Build capability in accounting excellence, controls, and audit readiness.

Key Skills & Competencies

•          Strong understanding of Ind AS, IFRS, and corporate accounting principles.
•          Expertise in GL accounting, balance sheet analysis, and reconciliations.•          Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).•          Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and control orientation.•          Ability to manage tight deadlines and multiple stakeholders.•          Leadership skills with a focus on collaboration, accuracy, and accountability.

Qualification & Experience

•          Chartered Accountant (CA) preferred; MBA Finance / CMA acceptable.
•          15–18 years of experience in corporate accounting or controllership roles.•          Prior experience leading GL or accounting operations teams is essential.•          Exposure to fast-paced, matrix organizations preferred.
