Fire safety Engineer: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Safety Engineer with specialized expertise in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive fire safety strategies, designs, and protocols for our BESS projects, from concept through commissioning and operation. This role requires a deep understanding of battery chemistries, thermal runaway phenomena, fire suppression technologies, and relevant national and international fire codes and standards applicable to energy storage. Key Responsibilities: Fire Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Conduct detailed fire risk assessments for BESS products, identifying potential hazards, failure modes, and worst-case scenarios (e.g., thermal runaway propagation). Develop and implement effective fire prevention and mitigation strategies, including passive and active fire protection systems. Perform calculations related to heat release rates, smoke control, and fire suppression agent requirements for BESS enclosures. Design & Engineering: Collaborate with engineering teams (electrical, mechanical) on the fire-safe design of BESS containers & enclosures. Selection of fire safety components: Deflagration vents, Ventilation systems, Explosion Relief Valves, etc. Specify and select appropriate fire detection (e.g., gas detection, heat detection, smoke detection) and suppression systems. Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor submittals for fire safety compliance. Contribute to the development of ventilation and thermal management strategies to prevent thermal runaway. Standards & Compliance: Ensure all BESS designs and installations comply with relevant national and international fire codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., NFPA 855, IEC 62933-5-2, UL 9540). Stay abreast of emerging technologies, research, and regulatory changes in fire safety for energy storage. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in fire safety engineering, with a significant focus on battery energy storage systems. Proven experience with fire hazard analysis, fire suppression system design, and code compliance for industrial or energy projects. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of active and passive fire protection systems, including fire detection, suppression (gaseous, water-based, special hazards), and structural fire resistance. Familiarity with fire modeling software (e.g., Ansys Fluent, Discrete Phase Model (DPM), FDS, CFAST) is a plus. Proficiency in CAD software and other engineering tools.
