Position Summary

Level:

As an Engineering Manager at Deloitte Consulting, you will oversee the technical delivery of enterprise-scale software solutions, lead cross-functional and global teams and mentor junior members. You will collaborate to understand functional requirements, support sales and proposal efforts, and drive end-to-end project delivery, including estimation and planning, to ensure successful outcomes.

Work you’ll do:

Collaborate with the functional team and client to thoroughly understand business requirements. Oversee technical delivery by providing architectural and implementation recommendations. Lead documentation efforts, ensuring adherence to standards and best practices. Direct the design and development of solutions, ensuring timely delivery according to project plans. Work closely with project leadership to identify and escalate potential risks and prepare status reports. Mentor junior team members and facilitate communication between various teams within the engagement. Respond to proposals by providing accurate estimations and technical input, supporting the overall success and alignment of project objectives with client needs.

• Assess legacy mainframe applications and environments to identify modernization opportunities and constraints.
• Design target cloud architectures (e.g., microservices, serverless, containerized) that address scalability, reliability, and performance requirements.
• Select appropriate migration approaches (rehost, replatform, refactor, replace) and supporting tools.
• Develop architectural blueprints, integration patterns, and data migration strategies.
• Guide engineering teams through the implementation of modernization solutions.
• Set standards for code conversion, data migration, integration, and testing.
• Ensure solutions comply with security, regulatory, and governance requirements.
• Oversee the assessment of legacy mainframe applications and data, identifying migration scope and strategy.
• Manage the execution of migration activities—application analysis, code conversion, data migration, integration, and testing.
• Ensure adherence to best practices for cloud migration, DevOps, automation, and CI/CD.
• Work closely with business analysts, application owners, and IT leaders to gather requirements and align architectural decisions with business goals.
• Present architecture options, trade-offs, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for business leaders, IT teams, and external partners.
• Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to executive stakeholders.
• Facilitate workshops, training, and change management activities to support adoption.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to migration, data integrity, security, and business continuity.
• Implement quality assurance processes, monitoring, and validation to ensure successful migration and cutover.
• Stay current with emerging mainframe and cloud technologies, tools, and best practices.
• Recommend improvements to processes, tools, and architectures for ongoing optimization.
• Establish and enforce architectural standards, validation processes, and rollback strategies.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to migration, data integrity, and business continuity.

Qualifications

Must Have Skills/Project Experience/Certifications:

• 14+ years of industry experience, with at least 8+ Experience in large-scale, complex modernization projects.
• At least 6 years’ experience Managing/leading/Architecting large-scale, complex migration and modernization projects.
• Deep experience with mainframe technologies (e.g., COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL).
• Proven track record in migrating mainframe applications to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, containers, and serverless computing.
• Familiarity with migration tools (e.g., AWS Mainframe Modernization, Azure Mainframe Migration, Micro Focus, Innowake, CloudEndure).
• Experience in designing and implementing large-scale, mission-critical systems.
• Proven ability to create architectural blueprints and solution designs for complex migrations.
• Strong understanding of integration, data migration, and modernization patterns.
• Ability to lead technical teams and mentor engineers.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical architecture.
• Understanding of compliance, regulatory, and security considerations.
• Proven track record managing large-scale, complex IT transformation projects.
• Strong organizational, planning, and execution skills.
• Experience with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage external vendors.
• Stay current with advancements in generative AI, LLMs, and prompt engineering techniques.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP Architect and Mainframe Modernization) are a plus.

Education:

• BE/B.Tech/M.C.A./M.Sc (CS) degree or equivalent from accredited university.
