To inspire students through high-quality drama instruction that promotes creativity, confidence, communication skills, and an appreciation for performing arts. The Drama Teacher will design and deliver a robust drama program aligned with international education standards.Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Plan and deliver engaging drama lessons in line with the school’s curriculum (e.g., IB MYP/DP, IGCSE/A Levels, American Common Core).Teach drama theory and performance skills including improvisation, voice, movement, script work, and stagecraft.Encourage self-expression, teamwork, and risk-taking in a supportive environment.Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.Curriculum & Assessment
Develop a comprehensive and progressive drama curriculum.Prepare students for internal assessments and external examinations (if applicable, e.g., IB DP Theatre, IGCSE Drama).Design and implement appropriate assessment tools and maintain accurate records.Provide constructive feedback and support to students on performance and development.School Productions & Events
Direct or co-direct school plays, musicals, and drama showcases.Organize and manage auditions, rehearsals, stage design, and production schedules.Collaborate with music, art, and technology departments for cross-disciplinary productions.Encourage student participation in drama festivals, competitions, or external performances.Classroom & Resource Management
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-equipped learning environment.Manage drama equipment, costumes, scripts, and other resources within budgetary guidelines.Ensure adherence to health and safety policies during rehearsals and performances.Collaboration & Professional Development
Work with colleagues to integrate drama across the curriculum and support interdisciplinary learning.Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide initiatives.Stay up to date with global trends and best practices in drama and performing arts education.Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Drama, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts, or a related fieldTeaching certification or qualification (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed., state license, IB certification)2–5 years of relevant teaching experience, ideally in an international or multicultural environmentExperience with international curricula (IB MYP/DP Theatre, Cambridge IGCSE/A Levels Drama, or similar)Skills & Attributes
Strong knowledge of drama pedagogy, performance techniques, and theatre historyExcellent communication, leadership, and classroom management skillsAbility to inspire students and foster a love for performance and storytellingCreativity, flexibility, and cultural sensitivityTeam player with collaborative mindset, especially for productions and cross-curricular workStrong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning events and performancesDesirable (Optional)
Experience directing large-scale school productions or musicalsAbility to teach additional performing arts subjects (e.g., music, dance)Familiarity with technical theatre (lighting, sound, set design)Experience mentoring students for international drama festivals or university portfoliosFirst aid and child safeguarding certifications
