Position
Role Summary
The Manager - Refractory for the Coke Oven/SMS/RHF Project will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of refractory management within the Coke Oven section of the plant. The role involves supervising the installation, maintenance, and optimization of refractory materials in the Coke Oven, ensuring the system operates efficiently, with minimal downtime and maximum operational performance. This position will play a critical role in managing refractory-related projects, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Refractory Management and Planning for
- Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of refractories in the Coke Oven/SMS/RHF system, ensuring long-term reliability and efficient performance.
- Develop and implement refractory management strategies for the Coke Oven/SMS/RHF including preventive maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
- Collaborate with the project team to plan and execute refractory installation during new project phases or shutdowns, ensuring the timely completion of work within budget and quality standards.
- Ensure that refractory materials are selected and applied based on plant requirements and performance criteria.
2. Refractory Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Supervise day-to-day refractory maintenance activities, ensuring the proper function of the Coke Oven system.
- Conduct regular inspections to assess the condition of refractories and determine the need for maintenance, repairs, or replacements.
- Troubleshoot refractory-related issues, providing timely solutions to minimize any impact on plant operations.
- Implement corrective actions based on performance monitoring and root cause analysis.
3. Refractory Installation, Commissioning, and Optimization
- Lead the team in installing new refractories during plant upgrades, shutdowns, and commissioning, ensuring correct application and adherence to project specifications.
- Monitor and optimize refractory systems, evaluating their performance and lifespan, and ensuring maximum operational efficiency.
- Oversee the curing process and initial operation of newly installed refractories, ensuring that they meet quality standards.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to optimize the refractory designs for better performance and reduced maintenance costs.
4. Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Implement a system for monitoring the performance of refractories in the Coke Oven/SMS/RHF, using data to inform decisions on maintenance and optimization strategies.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on refractory performance, maintenance status, and any issues or improvements needed to senior management.
- Utilize performance data to recommend and implement design improvements and cost-effective changes to increase refractory life and reduce operational costs.
5. Safety and Compliance
- Ensure that all refractory activities related to the Coke Oven/SMS/RHF comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety audits and take corrective actions to address potential hazards in refractory operations.
- Promote a culture of safety by ensuring that all team members are trained in safe practices for handling and working with refractories.
6. Budgeting and Resource Management
- Develop and manage the budget for refractory maintenance and projects related to the Coke Oven/SMS/RHF, ensuring that expenditures are kept within the allocated budget.
- Oversee the procurement of refractory materials, ensuring that the correct materials are selected, and inventory levels are maintained to avoid shortages.
- Monitor and optimize resource utilization for refractory works, ensuring efficiency and minimizing costs.
7. Team Leadership and Development
- Manage and lead a team of refractory engineers and technicians, ensuring they have the necessary training and resources to perform effectively.
- Foster a collaborative work environment and ensure the team is aligned with the project goals and plant requirements.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, developing their skills and knowledge in refractory materials and applications.
8. Documentation and Reporting
- Ensure all refractory work is documented accurately, including maintenance logs, inspection reports, and material usage.
- Maintain up-to-date records on refractory installations, repairs, and performance for internal and external audits.
- Report any issues or recommendations for improvements to senior management, with detailed action plans.
