Deputy Manager / Assistant Manager - EHS

Job Purpose

To support the Safety Manager in implementing and monitoring EHS systems across the construction site. The Assistant Manager Safety plays a key role in supervising the safety team, driving compliance with safety standards, managing documentation, and coordinating safety activities with project stakeholders to maintain a safe and legally compliant work environment.

Responsibilities

1. Safety Supervision

• Assist in managing daily safety operations across all work zones.
• Ensure consistent implementation of EHS procedures, PPE usage, and permit systems.
• Monitor site activities, identify safety deviations, and initiate timely corrective actions.
• Development and implementation of HSE plan, HIRA and plans.

2. Safety Team Coordination

• Supervise Senior and Junior Safety Officers on site.
• Allocate responsibilities and monitor task execution.
• Conduct internal reviews and ensure safety personnel are performing effectively.

3. Inspections & Audits

• Conduct regular safety inspections and participate in internal/external audits.
• Assist in preparing audit documentation and tracking closure of non-conformities.
• Ensure checklists and safety observations are properly recorded and escalated.

4. Training & Awareness

• Support planning and delivery of site safety inductions and toolbox talks.
• Conduct training on specific risk areas such as working at height, electrical safety, and confined space.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through campaigns, banners, and events.

5. Incident Management

• Participate in investigation of accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Collect data, assist in root cause analysis, and recommend preventive measures.
• Ensure timely reporting and proper documentation of all incidents.

6. Permit to Work (PTW) Administration

• Review and verify permits for high-risk work activities.
• Ensure permit conditions are implemented and monitored during execution.
• Maintain permit logs and compliance records.

7. Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain EHS documents including daily reports, training records, inspection checklists, and safety statistics.
• Ensure compliance with project-specific and regulatory safety documentation requirements.
• Support ISO documentation and certifications (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).

8. Coordination with Stakeholders

• Liaise with execution teams, subcontractors, and client representatives for safety planning.
• Ensure safety requirements are integrated into work methods and execution plans.
• Support the Safety Manager in client reviews, meetings, and progress reporting.

Qualifications & Skills

Education

• Diploma / Degree in Engineering with a professional safety qualification (e.g., ADIS, PDIS, NEBOSH IGC, or equivalent).

Experience

• 8 to 14 years of experience in construction safety, including supervisory roles.
• Experience in large-scale infrastructure, commercial, or industrial projects preferred.
• Mivan Experience and high rise building experience.

Knowledge

• Good understanding of construction hazards, safety laws, and EHS best practices.
• Familiarity with risk assessments, PTW systems, and emergency preparedness.

Skills

• Strong supervision and coordination ability.
• Good communication, documentation, and incident investigation skills.
• Proficient in MS Office and safety management systems (where applicable).

• Energetic and physically fit to cover large and dynamic construction sites.
