Job Description

Overview:

The Dean of the School of Computing at PPG Institute of Technology affiliated with Anna University plays a critical role in driving the academic and research missions of the School. The Dean is expected to provide visionary leadership in the areas of teaching, research, faculty development, student success, and industry collaboration while ensuring the efficient management of resources, programs, and staff. The Dean will serve as a key figure in shaping the future of the School, ensuring academic excellence, and contributing to the overall development of the college in alignment with the goals and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership:

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the academic programs offered by the School of Computing, ensuring alignment with industry needs, emerging technologies, and educational standards.
  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of curriculum delivery, ensuring high academic standards and innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the college, particularly with related engineering departments, to enhance cross-functional learning opportunities.
  • Oversee the accreditation processes for computing programs, including national (NBA) and international standards.
  • Ensure the professional development of faculty, including organizing workshops, training, and seminars to stay abreast of current trends in computing education.

Research and Innovation:

  • Champion and support research initiatives within the School of Computing, encouraging faculty and students to engage in high-impact research and publish in prestigious journals.
  • Facilitate collaborations with industry, government agencies, and international institutions to advance research and development projects.
  • Develop and manage research centers or labs in emerging areas of computing, such as AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cybersecurity, IoT, and Blockchain.
  • Secure external funding for research activities, including government grants, industry partnerships, and academic collaborations.

Faculty and Staff Management:

  • Lead the recruitment, development, and retention of highly qualified faculty and staff within the School of Computing.
  • Promote a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and inclusivity within the School of Computing.
  • Ensure fair and effective faculty performance evaluation and provide mentorship for junior faculty members.
  • Organize faculty development programs and encourage faculty participation in national and international conferences.
  • Manage administrative staff and ensure efficient operations within the School.

Student Affairs and Development:

  • Promote a student-centered approach to education, ensuring the academic, professional, and personal growth of students.
  • Oversee student academic advising, career counseling, and placement activities, fostering relationships with top-tier companies for student internships and recruitment.
  • Encourage student involvement in extracurricular activities, clubs, and technical fests that promote leadership, teamwork, and innovation.
  • Address student grievances and provide a conducive academic environment for their success.

Administration and Resource Management:

  • Manage the School’s budget effectively, ensuring the optimal allocation of resources for academic, research, and operational needs.
  • Oversee the infrastructure and technology requirements of the School, ensuring that classrooms, labs, and other facilities are up-to-date and equipped to provide a top-tier educational experience.
  • Develop and implement policies to streamline academic and administrative processes within the School.
  • Prepare and review reports on the academic and research progress of the School for university leadership.

External Relations and Industry Collaboration:

  • Cultivate relationships with key industry leaders, organizations, and government bodies to facilitate research partnerships, student internships, and job placements.
  • Represent the School of Computing at academic conferences, public forums, and industry events.
  • Act as a liaison between the School and alumni, ensuring that the alumni network is engaged and leveraged for mentoring and career support for students.
  • Organize corporate training programs and industry interaction events to strengthen industry-academic linkages.

Strategic Planning and Development:

  • Lead the School of Computing in strategic planning efforts to align the School’s goals with the vision and mission of the College and Anna University.
  • Implement strategies to attract high-caliber students to the School, increasing student enrollment and retention rates.
  • Promote the School’s academic and research profile to national and international audiences, ensuring recognition and prestige.
  • Develop and implement long-term plans to expand academic offerings and research areas, based on emerging trends and student demands.

Required Qualifications:

  • Academic Qualifications:

o Ph.D. in Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field.

o An exemplary academic and research track record, with significant contributions to the field of computing.

  • Experience:

o At least 10 years of experience in academia, including at least 5 years in leadership or management roles such as Head of Department, Associate Dean, or similar roles.

o Proven track record of successfully managing academic programs, faculty, and resources.

o Experience in securing and managing research funding from government or industry sources.

o Familiarity with accreditation processes, both national and international, for engineering programs.

  • Skills:

o Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

o Ability to think strategically and provide innovative solutions to academic challenges.

o Proven ability to lead research initiatives and collaborate across disciplines.

o Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and external stakeholders.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹100,000.00 - ₹150,000.00 per month
