Job Description

Surveyor A surveyor plays a crucial role on a construction site, ensuring that the project is built according to design and legal requirements. Here are the main roles and responsibilities of a surveyor in construction: 1. Site Assessment and Preparation l Conduct topographical surveys to map the land's features. l Evaluate ground conditions and help determine suitability for construction. l Perform topographic surveys to map natural and man-made features of the land, including contours, vegetation, utilities and structures. l Set out control points for future construction work. 2. Setting Out (Construction Layout) l Accurately mark out positions and levels for foundations, walls, roads, and other structures. l Ensure that the construction follows the design drawings and specifications. 3.Measurement and Monitoring l Measure distances, angles, and elevations using instruments like total stations, GPS, levels, and theodolites. l Monitor settlement or movement of structures during and after construction. 4. Data Collection and Management l Collect and process survey data using software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D). l Maintain records of measurements, plans, and reports for future reference. 5. Boundary and Legal Compliance l Define property lines and land boundaries to avoid legal dispute l Ensure construction stays within legal boundaries and zoning regulations. 6. Coordination and Communication l Work closely with project manager, engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure accuracy in construction. l Provide technical advice and updates on site conditions or discrepancies. 7. Quality Control l Check and verify that work is done according to specifications and standards. l Identify and report deviations from design early to prevent costly corrections later. l Follow safety protocols and procedures during fieldwork and adhere to ethical standards in surveying practices. l Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in the surveying field. Required skills · Bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering or a related field. · 5+ years of experience in surveying or a similar role. · Strong knowledge of surveying techniques, equipment and software, preferably in the Indian context. · Experience in land survey laws, regulations and practices in India. · Proficiency in using surveying instruments, such as total stations, GPS receivers, laser scanners and CAD software for surveying and land mapping. · Solid understanding of survey calculations, geodesy and coordinate systems. · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret survey data and resolve discrepancies. · Analytical and mathematical abilities with attention to detail in survey measurements and documentation. · Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with effective communication and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary teams. · Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Preferred Skills · Professional certification, such as a Licensed Professional Surveyor (LPS) or Certified Survey Technician (CST). · Experience with 3D scanning and other modelling techniques. · Knowledge of environmental and sustainability considerations in surveying. · Understanding of land development and construction processes. · Familiarity with building codes and regulations in India.
