Chemical Process Safety Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) & Risk Assessment:

• Lead and facilitate PHA sessions using methods such as HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA to identify and assess process risks.
  
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments to determine the likelihood and severity of incidents.
  
• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure integration into process design and operations.
  
• Maintain detailed documentation of PHA studies, risk assessments, and mitigation actions in compliance with regulatory standards.
  

Process Safety Management (PSM):

• Develop, implement, and monitor PSM programs per OSHA, EPA, and NFPA guidelines.
  
• Establish procedures for hazard communication, operating procedures, training, and emergency response.
  
• Conduct regular PSM audits, identify improvement areas, and train employees in process safety principles.
  
• Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety performance.
  

Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis:

• Lead and participate in incident and near-miss investigations to identify root causes using 5-Why, Fishbone, and Fault Tree Analysis methods.
  
• Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions and verify their effectiveness.
  
• Document and communicate findings to promote organizational learning and safety culture.
  

Compliance & Regulatory Affairs:

• Ensure adherence to local, state, and international process safety regulations.
  
• Prepare and maintain all necessary regulatory reports and documentation.
  
• Support during regulatory inspections and audits and serve as the company liaison for process safety matters.
  

Process Design & Safety Engineering:

• Review and approve process designs to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  
• Conduct HAZOP reviews during design and modification stages to identify hazards and operability issues.
  
• Provide technical support on process safety engineering and recommend safety-enhancing technologies.
