Job Description – BlasterPosition: Blaster Level: M-11 Function: Mining Location: Sagasahi Company: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Limited Reporting To: In-Charge – Operations, Mining Job Purpose:To safely and efficiently execute blasting operations in open-pit mining. The role requires skilled handling, storage, and usage of explosives while adhering to strict safety, statutory, and operational standards to support mining productivity and regulatory compliance. Organizational Structure:Reports to: In-Charge – Operations, Mining Direct Reports: None Key Responsibilities:Lay out drill patterns and determine depth and diameter of blast holes as per plan. Assemble primer charges using appropriate detonators, fuses, and cords. Load explosives in blast holes and connect systems to detonation devices. Handle, transport, and store explosives as per statutory norms ensuring utmost safety. Maintain accurate documentation and records in line with legal requirements. Inspect the blasting area before detonation to ensure all safety laws are followed. Signal workers to clear the blast area before detonation. Discharge duties of a licensed blaster in accordance with MMR-1961 guidelines. Educational Qualifications & Certifications Graduate in any discipline Valid Blaster Certificate of Competency (as per statutory requirement) ii. Experience Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in blasting in open-pit mines iii. Functional Skills Deep knowledge of explosives and modern blasting techniques Experience in blast design, planning, and execution Strong safety awareness and understanding of compliance protocols Capability to coordinate with drilling teams Proficient in hazard identification, risk management, and emergency handling Experience in monitoring blast results and optimizing performance Meticulous documentation and record-keeping iv. Behavioral Skills Strong attention to detail Effective communication and coordination skills Problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure
