Backend Engineer – DeFi (Remote)

Our client is a leading DeFi derivatives platform redefining how users trade on-chain derivatives. With deep liquidity, instant execution, and up to 25x leverage across 70+ markets, they’re building one of the most advanced decentralized trading experiences on Ethereum, powered by the Synthetix protocol on Optimism for low gas fees and high performance.

As a backend engineer, you’ll play a critical role in building and scaling the systems that power their trading infrastructure. You’ll work on high-performance backend services, smart contract integrations, and on-chain transaction systems that drive one of the most ambitious products in DeFi.

What you’ll do:

• Design and implement scalable, low-latency backend systems for trading, data processing, and risk management
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and blockchain teams to deliver seamless platform functionality
• Develop APIs and backend architecture for reliable, high-speed trade execution
• Maintain top-tier standards of security, performance, and reliability
• Mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and drive engineering best practices

What we’re looking for:

• 4+ years of backend development experience
• Proven background building scalable, high-performance systems in trading, fintech, or DeFi
• Strong experience with Node.js, Go, Python, or similar backend languages
• Familiarity with technologies like MongoDB, Kafka, Redis, GCP, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools
• Understanding of microservices architecture and API design
• Passion for DeFi and building products you’d want to use yourself

Nice to have:

• Experience with blockchain or smart contract integrations
• Understanding of trading algorithms, derivatives, or risk management concepts
• Contributions to open-source DeFi or blockchain projects
