Role Overview

Head – Automobile Division

Key Responsibilities

1. Fleet Management

  • Oversee operation and upkeep of company-owned vehicles including

    loaders, trucks, forklifts, excavators, and allied equipment.

  • Plan and schedule vehicle usage to optimize availability for plant operations.
  • Maintain updated vehicle logs, usage records, and compliance documents.

2. Repair & Maintenance

  • Establish preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for all vehicles.
  • Supervise workshops, technicians, and external service vendors for timely repairs.
  • Ensure quality maintenance work and minimize downtime of vehicles.

3. Spare Parts & Inventory Control

  • Manage procurement, stocking, and issue of spare parts and consumables.
  • Ensure cost optimization and prevent pilferage/misuse of spares.
  • Develop vendor network for genuine parts and timely supply.

4. Manpower & Team Leadership

  • Lead and supervise drivers, mechanics, operators, and support staff.
  • Allocate work, monitor performance, and ensure discipline within the division.
  • Conduct training programs for safe and efficient vehicle operations.

5. Insurance & Compliance

  • Ensure timely renewal of vehicle insurance, permits, road tax, and regulatory documents.
  • Handle accident/insurance claims and liaise with insurance companies.
  • Ensure compliance with RTO, safety, and environmental regulations.

6. Cost & Performance Management

  • Monitor fuel consumption, mileage, and operating costs of vehicles.
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets for the automobile division.
  • Track KPIs such as downtime, maintenance cost per vehicle, and breakdown frequency.

7. Safety & Standards

  • Enforce safety protocols for drivers, operators, and mechanics.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet safety standards before deployment.
  • Conduct periodic safety audits of vehicles and workshops.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:

    B.E./Diploma in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering (preferred).
  • Experience:

    10 – 15 years in managing fleets of heavy commercial vehicles, preferably in steel, mining, logistics, or heavy manufacturing industries.
  • Strong technical knowledge of heavy vehicles, earth-moving equipment, and material handling equipment.
  • Experience in managing manpower, workshops, and vendor relationships.
  • Familiarity with RTO regulations, insurance processes, and fleet management systems.
