To design and deliver a comprehensive athletics program that develops students’ physical fitness, discipline, sportsmanship, and track and field techniques. The Athletics Coach will inspire participation, foster athletic excellence, and prepare students for intra- and inter-school competitions.Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Training
Plan and conduct age-appropriate coaching sessions in various athletic disciplines, including sprinting, middle/long-distance running, relays, hurdles, jumps (long jump, high jump, triple jump), and throws (shot put, discus, javelin).Teach correct technique, form, and conditioning methods to enhance student performance.Adapt coaching strategies for beginner to advanced skill levels.Curriculum & Program Development
Develop a progressive athletics curriculum aligned with the school’s PE framework and international standards (e.g., IB, Cambridge).Integrate physical literacy, teamwork, and leadership development into lessons.Collaborate with PE staff to incorporate athletics into broader physical education programs.Competition & Events
Organize and manage participation in school sports days, inter-house competitions, and local, regional, or national athletics events.Select and prepare school athletics teams for competitive events, including training schedules and athlete development plans.Accompany teams to meets, ensuring proper supervision and coaching.Student Development
Monitor and assess student performance, providing individual feedback and guidance.Encourage healthy lifestyles, discipline, and a growth mindset in student-athletes.Identify and mentor talented students for advanced training and external opportunities.Facility & Equipment Management
Ensure the proper use, storage, and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities (e.g., tracks, hurdles, measuring tools, throwing implements).Conduct regular safety inspections and report maintenance issues promptly.Maintain inventory of athletics equipment and supplies.Safety & Risk Management
Enforce strict safety protocols during all training and competition sessions.Respond to injuries and emergencies with appropriate first aid and incident reporting.Promote safe warm-up, cool-down, and injury prevention practices.Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with the Head of Sports, PE team, and school leadership to align athletics with school-wide goals.Maintain open communication with students, parents, and colleagues about training schedules, performance, and events.Participate in staff meetings, parent interactions, and professional development programs.Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or related fieldCertified Athletics/Track & Field Coach from a recognized body (e.g., World Athletics, USATF, IAAF, SAI)First Aid and CPR certification (required)Minimum 2–5 years of experience coaching athletics, preferably in an international or school settingExperience preparing student-athletes for competitive meets (desirable)Skills & Attributes
Strong technical knowledge of track and field events and training methodologiesExcellent organizational and time-management skillsAbility to motivate and inspire young athletesHigh level of personal fitness and energyStrong communication and interpersonal skillsCultural sensitivity and ability to work in a diverse, international communityPassion for promoting physical education and lifelong fitnessDesirable (Optional)
Experience working with strength & conditioning programsFamiliarity with digital tools for athlete performance trackingInvolvement in school-wide health, wellness, or leadership initiativesAbility to coach other sports or assist in broader PE instructionExperience in organizing school-wide athletics events or leagues
