Job Description

Job title: Utility Shift In charge

Reporting to: Utility Head

Number of people supervised: 40

Key Accountabilities

Job Requirements:

  • Responsible for safe and reliable operation & maintenance of all utility systems including Boiler, Hot Water System, Air Compressors, Chiller & HVAC Systems, Pumps, Cooling Tower, Water Treatment Plant, Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).
  • Conduct daily monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of utility equipment and processes.
  • Execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance schedules for all utilities.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory safety and environmental standards during operation and maintenance.
  • Carry out routine inspection of critical utility equipment, maintain logbooks, records, and downtime analysis.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance and operation team for equipment isolation, startup/shutdown, and modifications.
  • Support energy efficiency improvement programs and implementation of energy-saving measures.
  • Maintain availability of critical spares and tools required for smooth utility plant operation.
  • Monitor and ensure system pressures, temperatures, chemical dosing, and water parameters are within desired limits.
  • Involve in root cause analysis (RCA) for repeated failures and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure implementation of 5S, Kaizen, TPM, and WCM standards in utility areas.
  • Maintain shift-wise communication and reporting to Utility Manager for any deviation or urgent requirement.

Qualification

  • Diploma/BE/B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institute.
  • Boiler Operation Engineer Certificate(Must).
  • Energy Auditor/Manager Certification (desirable)

Experience

  • 5-8 years of hands-on experience in utilities operation & maintenance in continuous process industries.
  • Sound knowledge of boiler operation, HVAC, chillers, air compressors, WTP, ETP & STP systems.

Skills & Competancies

  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical utility systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and plant maintenance planning.
  • Familiar with safety procedures, statutory compliance, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Good leadership and team management skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and SAP/CMMS software.
  • Willingness to work in shifts and respond to emergencies promptly.
  • Energetic, proactive, with strong communication and documentation skills.
