Position Overview : A career counselor specializing in liberal education at FLAME provides guidance and support to students who have pursued or are pursuing a liberal arts or humanities education. The role involves helping our students identify and develop their skills, interests, and goals to make informed decisions about their academic and professional paths. This position requires a deep understanding of the benefits and potential career trajectories associated with a liberal education, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Key Responsibilities: Student Counseling: Meet with students to discuss their academic and career aspirations, helping them align their interests with potential career paths. Three key focus areas Mapping student interests Profile building Master’s degree analysis Event ideation & execution Ideate events and workshops to engage students with the HECS team Coordinate event management from logistics to registration to feedback Engage students in creative and interesting ways Presenting at student events Global job and market trends analysis Provide resources and guidance for researching and exploring potential career options related to liberal arts by understanding global trends Help students uncover connections between their academic pursuits and real-world careers Offer advice on job search techniques, including leveraging online platforms, job boards, and alumni networks Maintain a record of top subjects, destinations & university preferences chosen by students at FLAME Stay updated on trends and developments within various industries to provide relevant and accurate information to individuals. Offer insights into how liberal education can be an asset in emerging fields and industries. Networking & Collaboration Building a network with university representatives from across the world Collaborating with market players to bring in masterclasses and sessions for students that may be useful when applying for a job Working across departments to engage students Planning, recording & maintaining Maintain a record of everyday student meets Prep for student meets Reminders to send them before sessions Map student journey with systematic & methodological systems Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is typically required, though a master's degree in counseling, education, or a related discipline is often preferred. Strong understanding of liberal arts and humanities education, including its benefits and potential career paths. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of career development theories and counseling techniques. Familiarity with various industries and the ability to identify connections between liberal education and real-world job requirements. Proficiency in utilizing career assessment tools and online resources for job searching and networking. Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide individualized guidance based on each person's unique circumstances.
