Position Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Head of Design to lead the design and development of traction motors for railway applications. The ideal candidate will have in-depth expertise in electromagnetic design, motor architecture, and the railway domain, especially with Indian Railways. The role demands leadership in motor design, coordination with regulatory authorities, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on involvement in product development and lifecycle management. Key Responsibilities: Customer & Regulatory Interaction: Liaise with RDSO, CLW, and other Indian Railway bodies for current and future traction motor projects. Represent the company for technical discussions, reviews, and approvals related to railway traction motor design and performance. Technical Bidding & Documentation: Lead technical evaluation and response to railway tenders and global inquiries. Prepare motor technical specifications, clause-by-clause compliance documents, and test protocols aligned with customer and international standards. Product Development: Drive the design and development of traction motors for Mainline Locomotives, EMUs, and Vande Bharat trains. Create models of electric machines for system-level analysis and integration. Design & Analysis: Lead electromagnetic and thermal design using advanced simulation tools (e.g., RMxpert, ANSYS Maxwell 2D/3D, Magnet). Ensure design optimization for performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Component & BOM Management: Prepare Electrical BOM, define material specifications, and select insulation schemes based on voltage levels and applications. Provide technical specifications for sourcing and procurement. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate closely with marketing, sourcing, manufacturing, and testing teams to support new product introduction and ensure seamless execution. Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs meet applicable IS/IEC standards. Maintain updated knowledge of industry best practices, quality systems, and regulatory requirements. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of design engineers. Collaborate with R&D on innovation, prototyping, and integration of new technologies. Installation & Support: Provide technical documentation, installation guidance, and commissioning support to internal and external stakeholders. Required Skills & Experience: Domain Expertise : Minimum 13–15 years in design and development of rotating electrical machines in the rail domain or similar industries. Technical Proficiency : Strong grasp of electromagnetic design principles and complex motor architectures. Expertise in simulation tools: RMxpert, ANSYS Maxwell 2D/3D, Magnet. Skilled in CAD software: AutoCAD, NX, or SolidWorks. Standards Knowledge : Familiarity with IS/IEC standards relevant to electrical rotating machines and their components. Problem Solving : Proven ability in troubleshooting design issues and implementing robust solutions.
