Job Description

Position Summary

The Assistant Manager (Materials, Stores & Purchase) will be responsible for overseeing procurement, inventory management, and material handling activities. The role ensures the timely availability of quality materials at optimum costs while maintaining accurate records, streamlining processes, and supporting smooth operations of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Purchase:

- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with vendors to obtain quality materials at the best prices.
- Prepare purchase orders and ensure compliance with company policies and budgets. - Develop and maintain vendor relationships to ensure reliable supply and competitive pricing. - Monitor market trends and identify cost-saving opportunities. - Ensure timely delivery of goods and services as per operational requirements.

Stores & Inventory Management:

- Supervise receipt, inspection, storage, and issuance of materials.
- Maintain proper documentation of stock and update inventory records in ERP/software. - Implement FIFO, LIFO, and other inventory control methods to minimize wastage and obsolescence. - Conduct regular stock audits, cycle counts, and reconciliation with accounts. - Ensure safe storage, housekeeping, and compliance with safety standards.

Materials Management:

- Plan and monitor material requirements in coordination with production/operations.
- Optimize stock levels to balance availability and working capital requirements. - Assist in preparation of annual budgets for material and purchase requirements. - Support implementation of best practices in supply chain and materials management.

Administration & Compliance:

- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, company policies, and audit standards.
- Maintain records of purchase, GRN (Goods Receipt Notes), and stock registers for audit purposes. - Prepare MIS reports related to purchase, inventory, and vendor performance. - Support digitalization and automation initiatives in materials management.

Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Commerce, or related field (MBA/PGDM preferred).
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in purchase, stores, or materials management. - Strong knowledge of inventory control systems, ERP/SAP, and procurement practices. - Excellent negotiation, vendor management, and analytical skills. - Ability to work under pressure and meet timelines.
