1. Technical Skills HTML/CSS : A strong understanding of HTML for creating page structures and CSS for styling and layout. JavaScript : Essential for interactive and dynamic elements on websites. Familiarity with libraries like React, Angular, or Vue.js is often preferred. Responsive Design : Ability to create websites that work well on a variety of devices (e.g., mobile, tablet, desktop). Version Control : Familiarity with Git for tracking and managing changes to code, including using GitHub or GitLab. Backend Languages : Knowledge of server-side programming languages such as PHP, Python, Ruby, Node.js or React, depending on the role. Database Management : Experience with databases like MySQL, MongoDB, or PostgreSQL is often necessary, particularly for full-stack roles. Web Hosting & Deployment : Knowledge of deploying websites to hosting services (e.g., AWS, Heroku, or Netlify). SEO : Understanding of basic SEO practices to ensure websites are search-engine friendly. Frameworks : Familiarity with frameworks like Django (Python), Laravel (PHP), or Express (Node.js) for backend development, or Bootstrap for frontend development. 2. Design Skills UI/UX Design : While not always mandatory, having an eye for design and experience in user interface/user experience (UI/UX) design is beneficial. Graphic Design Tools : Familiarity with tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Sketch, especially if you’ll be involved in design work alongside development. 3. Experience Portfolio : A portfolio showcasing your previous web development work is essential, whether it’s personal projects or professional work. This helps demonstrate your skills and creativity. Industry Experience : Some positions may require previous professional experience in web development, while others might accept interns or junior developers. 4. Soft Skills Problem-Solving : The ability to troubleshoot issues and come up with effective solutions is crucial in development roles. Communication : You’ll often work in teams, so being able to explain technical concepts to non-technical people is important.
