Bloomingdale International School is seeking an experienced and passionate
Visual Art Teacher
to teach in the
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
and
Diploma Programme (DP)
. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of IB pedagogy, artistic expertise across mediums, and the ability to nurture students' creative and critical thinking skills in a structured, inquiry-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver high-quality, inquiry-based Visual Art lessons aligned with IB MYP and DP frameworks.
- Develop MYP unit plans, statements of inquiry, assessment tasks, and criteria-based rubrics.
- Guide DP students through the Visual Arts course, including Comparative Study, Process Portfolio, and Exhibition components.
- Foster creative and reflective practices through sketchbooks, journals, critiques, and formative assessments.
- Integrate historical, cultural, and contemporary contexts of art into the curriculum.
Assessment & Feedback
- Use IB assessment criteria to evaluate student work and maintain accurate records of progress.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth.
- Support students in curating personal portfolios and preparing for DP exhibitions.
Collaboration & Communication
- Participate in collaborative planning sessions with the IB coordinator and other subject teachers.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents, coordinators, and counselors about student development.
- Support interdisciplinary projects and events that integrate art into the wider curriculum.
Professional & School Engagement
- Stay up to date with IB documentation, visual arts practices, and international art education trends.
- Participate actively in school events, exhibitions, open houses, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Contribute to school life through supervision duties, student clubs, or enrichment programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Visual Arts, Fine Arts, or Art Education.
- Certified IB training in MYP/DP Visual Arts (preferred).
- A strong personal portfolio across various media and techniques (traditional and digital).
- Proven experience in an IB or international school setting.
- Excellent classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Competency in digital tools for art (Adobe Suite, Procreate, etc.) and academic tools (ManageBac, PowerSchool).
