Job Description

Our client is a leading player in the automotive space, which is at a forefront of innovation and committed to shaping a better future. To navigate the complex landscape of public policy and regulation, they are seeking a strategic and dynamic leader to join as Vice President of Government Relations.


The Vice President of Government Relations will be the primary architect and executor of the government relations and public policy strategy. This senior leadership role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key government officials, regulatory agencies, and industry associations at the state and centre.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive, persuasive, and politically astute professional who can effectively advocate for the company’s interests, mitigate regulatory risks, and identify opportunities that align with the business objectives.


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement a comprehensive government relations and public policy strategy that advances the company's business goals and protects its interests.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on legislative and regulatory proposals that could impact the company; assess potential risks and opportunities.
  • Directly advocate the company’s positions before legislatures, regulatory bodies, and key government stakeholders.
  • Lead the company’s engagement in industry trade associations and coalitions.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, trusted relationships with elected officials, their staff, and regulators across the political spectrum.
  • Serve as the company’s primary point of contact for government entities.
  • Plan and execute outreach events, such as facility tours, policy briefings, and political fundraisers (in compliance with all laws).
  • Draft policy position papers, testimony, comment letters, and briefing materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Work cross-functionally with Legal, Communications, Marketing, and business units to ensure policy positions are aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Provide strategic counsel to the executive leadership team and the Board of Directors on political and regulatory matters.
  • Educate and advise internal stakeholders on the political and regulatory landscape.
  • Partner with the Corporate Communications team to ensure consistent messaging across public affairs and media relations.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing government relations team.
  • Manage the department’s budget, external consultants, and lobbying resources effectively.


Required Qualifications & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Business, or a related field.

with 20+ years of progressive experience in government relations, public policy, or a

relevant government role.

  • Deep existing relationships with key policymakers and a demonstrated ability to build new ones.
  • Extensive knowledge of the legislative and regulatory processes
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues into clear, persuasive arguments.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team and cross-functional projects.
  • High level of integrity, sound judgment, and discretion in handling confidential information.
