System Administrator Hardware & Networking

Job Summary:

System Administrator

Key Responsibilities:

Hardware & Desktop Support:

• Install, configure, and troubleshoot desktop and laptop systems (Windows-based).
• Diagnose and resolve hardware-related issues (RAM, HDD, motherboard, display, etc.).
• Maintain and upgrade computer hardware as required.
• Ensure all workstations are secured and patched with the latest updates.

Printer and Peripheral Support:

• Install and configure printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
• Troubleshoot issues related to printing (connectivity, driver, spooler service, etc.).
• Manage printer sharing and network printing solutions.

Networking & Connectivity:

• Set up, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN networks.
• Perform routine monitoring and maintenance of network devices (routers, switches, access points).
• Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues (wired/wireless).
• Ensure robust firewall and antivirus protection is in place.

User & System Administration:

• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control using Windows Server & Active Directory.
• Provide first-level support for system users (on-site and remote).
• Maintain inventory of all IT hardware/software assets.

Data & Backup Management:

• Implement and monitor regular data backup processes.
• Ensure the availability and integrity of backup systems.
• Assist in disaster recovery planning and testing.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain detailed documentation of IT procedures, configurations, and maintenance records.
• Prepare periodic reports on system performance, uptime, and issues resolved.
• Assist in developing IT infrastructure improvement strategies for retail stores.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong troubleshooting skills in hardware (desktops/laptops/printers).
• In-depth understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
• Knowledge of Windows OS, Windows Server, Active Directory, and basic command-line tools.
• Monitor the health and functionality of networking devices like routers, switches, and wireless access points in retail environments.
• Maintain inventory of hardware and network-related equipment for retail locations.
• Familiarity with retail software solutions, POS systems, and hardware devices used in the retail industry.
• Experience with managing network security, including firewalls, antivirus, and data encryption.
• Ability to manage cabling, switch configuration, and basic network topology.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Educational Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a hardware/networking support role, ideally in a retail business environment.
• Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Cisco CCNA are a plus.
