Job Purpose

Lead and coordinate laboratory activities within HIC – Semifab. Support plant technical teams in developing laboratory capabilities and review technical analysis for defect characterization.

Job Context & Major Challenges

Job Context: As Hindalco downstream business is undertaking a multi-fold expansion, HIC Semifab is also undergoing a significant expansion. As part of the expansion there is a need to enhance the current infrastructure including R&D laboratories. Ambitions of downstream businesses necessitate a bigger and better laboratory infrastructure for carrying out R&D activities that will support both internal and external customers. The incumbent will provide administrative and functional lead to the laboratory team. The incumbent will coordinate all activities connected to the characterization and testing including the upkeep and maintenance of all the laboratory assets. The incumbent will also be the in-charge of developing the team of technologists to achieve their potential within the organization. The major challenges associated with the job include coordinating requirements of different stakeholders and ensuring satisfaction of internal or external customers simultaneously.

KRA1 Coordinate the activities of laboratories - Serve as coordinator for activities within the characterization and testing labs.

• Coordinate and balance the workload of the team by prioritizing and distributing ATS requests from plant units.
• Actively maintain database of characterization and testing work carried out within the lab.
• Provide support to R&D projects.
• Drive characterization and testing dominant Strategic/Xlab projects using project management structure such stage-gates.
• Prepare monthly report card on resources and equipment use.
• Actively seek and implement Improvement opportunities in lab use practices.
  

KRA2 Lead the lab infrastructure upgrade and maintenance activities - Lead activities on maintenance of the lab equipment.

• Work with contractors/designers to develop designs for common infrastructure and labs
• Manage the budget and time schedule for such activities
• Ensure regular maintenance activities of the facilities
  

KRA3 Lab upgrades and equipment acquisition - Drive lab specific purchase activities for both goods and services including budgeting, CP preparation, item creation, PR, quote, PO and invoicing

• Coordinate installation of the equipment in the lab with external vendors
  

KRA4 Knowledge creation and dissemination - Document projects and prepare project, visit reports

• Document and maintain results for various projects and convert into high quality tech-memos
• Ensure full documentation of each of the ATS project work is created and archived at appropriate space.
• Documentation of inventions for Invention Record for patent filing opportunities
• Present non-sensitive research findings in national and international conferences and proceedings
