Job Functions:

1. Should assist the Cath team prior to, during and post procedures in Operating rooms
2. Should be proficient in sterilization, maintenance, packing, and resupplying of the most complex Cath supplies and equipment in the operating room, and responds to codes with Cath team.
3. Is responsible to maintain a sterile environment and monitor patient to ensure efficient functioning of the cath lab
4. Should be competent to check and supply Cath carts and machines, check and replace Cath gas tanks, disassemble used Cath equipment, disinfect machines and supply carts, replace used products and prepare for invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, viz., complex equipment and supplies for hemodynamic monitoring location based like peripheral arterial and pulmonary artery catheter transducers, EKG, pulse oximeter, and nerve simulators.
5. This position has significant patient contact while assisting in transport and procedures. This position works collaboratively with Cath Nursing staff, and off-site resources.
6. The technician assists with the preparation of Cath supplies both preoperatively and post operatively by cleaning, maintaining, packaging, ordering, and inventorying of Cath supplies.
7. Retrieve special Cath supplies that are anticipated and/or requested by the person administering the anesthetic before and during surgery.
8. This varies based on location and may include
   • Monitoring equipment and ensure supplies are ready.
   • Ensures the Cath machine is ready for use including troubleshooting
   • May perform daily Cath equipment inspections including suction, electrical plugs, gas connections, oxygen and nitrous oxide cylinders.
   • May assist in positioning patients for procedures.
     1. Intraoperative:
     2. Provide and set up disposable materials needed to collect shed blood. Based on location, may set up equipment for delivering salvaged and banked blood products with Cell Saver and Rapid infuser.
     3. Assist in dressing and securing IVs and Arterial lines.
     4. Assist during intubating and extubating procedures as directed.
     5. Restock all used supplies as needed during a surgery.
     6. Dispose of contaminated materials and disinfect equipment in accordance with general operating room concerning biohazardous waste.
     7. Maintain awareness of physiological parameters and baselines of patients during a surgery.
     8. Postoperative:
     9. Clean Cath equipment in the Operating Room and outside locations following each procedure.
     10. Clean, maintain, and package used Cath materials and equipment.
     11. Perform additional duties as requested by other team members.
     12. Trouble shoot broken equipment and fix as directed by biomedical engineering.
         • Post op: Assist in monitoring and transport of patient.
