Sr. Accountant

A senior accountant job description involves overseeing accounting operations, preparing and analyzing financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and managing budgets and forecasts. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, and often involves mentoring junior staff. Key duties include managing general ledgers, performing reconciliations, assisting with audits, and developing and improving financial processes. Key responsibilities

• Financial reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
• General ledger management: Oversee general ledger maintenance and conduct account reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
• Auditing: Support and coordinate internal and external audits, and prepare documentation for external auditors.
• Budgeting and forecasting: Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting principles (like GAAP) and tax regulations.
• Process improvement: Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls and improve efficiency.
• Mentoring: Train and mentor junior accounting staff, and delegate financial responsibilities to the team.
• Account management: Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.

Required skills and qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Several years of experience, often 5+ years, in accounting or as a senior/supervisor accountant.
• Strong knowledge of basic and advanced accounting procedures and principles.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
• Experience with accounting software packages (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally ERP).
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong quantitative skills.
• Professional certifications like a CPA are often preferred.
