Role Overview:The Head of Department (HOD) – Sports is responsible for the overall development and management of the sports curriculum, infrastructure, and student engagement in physical education and extracurricular sports activities. The role involves planning, organizing, and implementing sports programs to promote fitness, teamwork, discipline, and a competitive spirit among students. Key Responsibilities:Strategic Planning & Development:Design and implement a comprehensive sports and physical education curriculum aligned with CBSE guidelines. Develop strategic plans for sports programs, competitions, and infrastructure enhancement. Establish a long-term vision for promoting a sports culture within the school. Identify and implement best practices in sports education and training. Program Implementation & Management:Organize and oversee inter-school, intra-school, and state/national level competitions. Ensure the proper scheduling of sports activities during school hours and extracurricular sessions. Develop coaching schedules and training modules for different sports disciplines. Monitor students’ progress and performance in sports activities. Infrastructure & Resource Management:Ensure the availability, maintenance, and proper usage of sports facilities and equipment. Collaborate with the school management to upgrade sports facilities and procure necessary equipment. Ensure safety standards and guidelines are followed in all sports activities. Talent Identification & Development:Identify and nurture talented students for competitive sports. Collaborate with external coaches, academies, and organizations to provide specialized training. Develop leadership and teamwork skills in students through sports activities. Faculty & Staff Coordination:Supervise and mentor the sports faculty and coaches. Conduct regular training sessions for sports teachers to enhance their skills and methodologies. Assign responsibilities and monitor the performance of sports staff. Parental & Community Engagement:Communicate with parents regarding students’ participation, progress, and achievements in sports. Organize sports awareness programs, workshops, and guest lectures. Collaborate with community sports clubs and organizations for student exposure and growth. Administrative Responsibilities:Prepare annual budgets and plans for sports programs and activities. Maintain records of students' participation, achievements, and sports inventory. Ensure compliance with school policies and regulatory guidelines. Key Competencies & Skills:Strong leadership and organizational skills. Deep knowledge of sports management, coaching methodologies, and physical education principles. Ability to motivate and mentor students and staff. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute large-scale sports events. Awareness of health and safety guidelines in sports education. Qualifications & Experience:Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field. Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in sports education and administration. Proven track record of coaching and managing sports teams at school or professional levels. Certification in coaching or specialized sports training is an added advantage. Performance Indicators:Successful execution of sports programs and events.
