Solar Design Engineer

The Solar Design Engineer is responsible for preparing complete solar PV system designs, technical drawings, energy yield calculations, and documentation for rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects.

Key Responsibilities

A. System Designing

• Prepare detailed solar PV system designs (rooftop, ground-mounted, hybrid, on-grid/off-grid).
• Design AC & DC layouts, SLDs, cable sizing, earthing diagrams, SPD/protection layouts, etc.
• Perform shadow analysis, module placement planning, and structure design using software.
• Select appropriate components (modules, inverters, cables, breakers, batteries, BOS).

B. Technical Calculations & Simulation

• Perform energy yield calculations and generation simulations using PVsyst / Helioscope / similar tools.
• Conduct load analysis for hybrid and off-grid systems.
• Calculate inverter sizing, string configuration, and cable losses.
• Ensure designs meet relevant codes (IEC / IS standards).
• Prepare detailed project reports (DPR), BOQ, technical datasheets, and project proposals.
• Provide documentation for net-metering, DISCOM approvals, and EPC submissions.

D. Coordination

• Work closely with sales, project managers, procurement, and installation teams.
• Support sales with technical drawings, proposals, and design-related clarifications.
• Provide technical guidance to site teams during installation and commissioning.

E. Quality & Compliance

• Ensure system designs follow engineering best practices, safety standards, and guidelines.
• Optimize system performance while controlling project cost.
• Review third-party designs or vendor submissions when required.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of solar PV technology and electrical engineering concepts.

• Expertise in design software: PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, SketchUp, MS Excel

• Understanding of IEC/IS standards, net-metering guidelines, and DISCOM requirements.
• Ability to perform energy modeling, load calculations, and system sizing.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Good documentation, communication, and coordination abilities.

Qualifications

• B.E / B.Tech & Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Renewable Energy, or related field.
• 35 years of experience in solar design (rooftop or utility-scale).
