We are seeking a top-performing, versatile, and passionate Software Engineer with over 4 years of experience in software development for an open position in our Content Engineering department, where we curate all the tax content needs for various Avalara product suites. The ideal candidate will have experience developing software components and APIs on Cloud and is skilled in Test Driven Development, Cloud technology and CI/CD.As a Software Engineer, you will design and develop software that processes compliance content: Sourcing by web scraping, Extracting using Machine Learning and Structure content using microservices, rule engines and informational modeling to manage content. You will collaborate with technical lead and business users to design, develop components, test and launch software. You will diligently review code and be a guard for software quality. Additionally, as a gracious presenter and communicator, you should be capable of building strong relationships with peers, partners, and leadership.This chance to contribute as a Software Engineer provides an enriching environment for professional development, collaborative innovation, and significant contributions to the organization's success.
About The Content Platform
Avalara's Content Platform is the foundation of our tax compliance solutions. It plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and up-to-date tax content is delivered to our clients. As a Technical Lead, you will have the chance to directly influence this vital platform and our clients' success.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop re-useable software components in Content Platform
- Review design specifications and create technical documents
- Maintain and improve existing features
- Work closely with engineers and expert groups on code reviews and test plans
- Mentor and coach engineers
- Champion and implement agile/scrum processes to ensure efficient and high-quality development.
- Address non-functional requirements like security, performance, and load for the platform, ensuring its stability and scalability.
What You'll Need to be Successful
Qualifications
- Bachelor's/master’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a software development role
- Experience with designing, implementing, and consuming REST APIs using Java, Python, Go lang or C#.
- Experience with Cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Experience with SQL or NoSQL technologies.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Terraform).
- Experience with distributed source control tools and development workflow (GitLab or similar).
- Knowledge of design patterns
