1. Job PurposeTo supervise the overall shift-wise mining operations by coordinating production, ensuring safety compliance, optimizing resource utilization, and maintaining statutory and quality standards to maximize productivity, service, and profitability.
2. Reporting StructureReports to: Mines Manager
Position: Operations / Shift In-charge – Mining
3. Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement detailed safe work procedures and ensure their execution.
Coordinate all open-pit mining activities including scheduling, drilling, blasting, excavation, and transportation.
Monitor pit operations to identify and rectify safety violations in accordance with DGMS and statutory norms.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE and machinery.
Maintain production and safety records accurately.
Execute shift-wise tasks and projects within defined timelines and quality standards.
Ensure compliance with mine safety, environmental regulations, and MMR-1961 (Reg. 106(2b)).
Lead shift teams and provide clear operational instructions.
Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to optimize shift operations.
Immediately escalate operational issues that may affect productivity or safety.
Monitor and control operational costs to meet budget targets.

Ensuring cost-effective, safe, and compliant mining operations.
5. Key Decisions
i. Decisions made by the Jobholder:
In-shift operational decisions including lithology handling, safety response, and logistics.
ii. Recommendations to Superiors:
Suggestions for technical/process improvements for cost-effective, hazard-free mining operations.

Internal:
Geology, Logistics, IT, Security, Technical Services
External:
DGMS, Government Authorities, MDOs, Equipment Service Providers, Nearby Mines

i. Financial:
Responsible for controlling shift-level operational costs and resource optimization.

As per organizational structure
8. Skills & Knowledge
i. Educational Qualifications:
Essential: Diploma/Degree in Mining Engineering with a valid First-Class Certificate of Competency
Desirable: Familiarity with applicable mining acts, rules, and regulations
ii. Experience:
10–25 years of relevant experience in mining operations, preferably as a shift/operations engineer
iii. Functional Skills:
Execution of mine plans
Mining cost forecasting and optimization
Strong knowledge of DGMS norms and safety compliance
iv. Behavioural Skills:
Team leadership and people management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to coordinate across multiple teams and manage pressure
