Role Summary

The Senior Chemist will perform trace-level analysis of contaminants, residues and nutritional markers in food and agricultural products. The role requires strong hands-on expertise with instruments like LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, HPLC, GC and familiarity with national and international standards for residue and contaminant testing.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instrument Operation & Analysis

• Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis for pesticides, mycotoxins, veterinary drugs, heavy metals, and other trace contaminants.
• Operate and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, ICP-MS and supporting chromatographic systems.
• Ensure correct method execution, calibration, and system suitability.

2. Sample Preparation & Extraction

• Handle complex sample preparation workflows including QuEChERS, SPE, LLE, digestion and derivatisation procedures.
• Ensure adherence to validated methods and SOPs for each matrix.

3. Method Compliance & Documentation

• Follow methods based on FSSAI, APEDA, CODEX, EU, USFDA, AOAC and 17025 requirements.
• Maintain complete raw data, logbooks, LIMS entries and analytical records.
• Support method verification, matrix extension studies and QC checks.

4. Data Review & Reporting Support

• Review chromatograms, peak integrations and calibration performance.
• Flag abnormalities, drifts, contamination issues, carryover or instrument instability.
• Prepare worksheets, summaries and provide inputs for COA review.

5. Quality & Safety Requirements

• Ensure strict adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 guidelines.
• Implement good laboratory practices, contamination control and instrument hygiene.
• Participate in internal audits, PTs and QC programs (blanks, spikes, CRMs).

6. Team Support & Coordination

• Assist junior chemists and trainees in routine analytical tasks.
• Coordinate with QA, sample management and reporting sections for smooth workflow.

Qualifications

• M.Sc in Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry / Biotechnology or related field.
• 6–8 years of hands-on trace analysis experience in accredited food/agri labs.
• Working knowledge of LC-MS/MS or GC-MS/MS is essential; ICP-MS experience preferred.
