Job Description

The Sales Head General Trade (GT) and Modern Trade (MT) is responsible for leading, developing, and executing the company sales strategies across both channels. This role drives revenue growth, strengthens market presence, builds strategic partnerships, and ensures excellence in distribution, merchandising, and customer engagement. The ideal candidate is highly experienced in both GT & MT operations, with strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales Strategy & Planning

Develop and implement sales strategies for GT and MT to achieve business objectives.

Prepare annual sales budgets, forecasts, and channel-wise targets.

Identify market opportunities, competitive trends, and emerging demand.

2. General Trade (GT) Management

Build and manage distributor networks, ensuring coverage, penetration, and profitable growth.

Lead the appointment, onboarding, and performance evaluation of distributors.

Optimize beat plans, retail coverage, and secondary sales performance.

Ensure availability, visibility, and merchandising across GT outlets.

3. Modern Trade (MT) Management

Lead negotiations with key accounts, national chains, and regional retailers.

Drive listing, planograms, promotions, visibility agreements, and joint business plans.

Monitor category performance, ROI of activities, and compliance with MT standards.

4. Team Leadership & Development

Manage, mentor, and motivate regional sales managers, KAMs, and the field force.

Ensure training on product knowledge, sales techniques, and market execution.

Build a strong performance-driven culture.

5. Channel Operations & Performance Management

Track primary, secondary, and tertiary sales across regions.

Review distributor claims, schemes, and trade promotions.

Oversee inventory planning, order cycles, and supply chain coordination.

6. Customer Relationship Management

Build strong relationships with distributors, retailers, key accounts, and trade partners.

Resolve escalations and ensure service excellence.

7. Reporting & Analytics

Monitor KPIs such as sales growth, productivity, coverage, and profitability.

Provide periodic MIS reports and insights to senior management.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of GT & MT dynamics

Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills

Proven leadership and team management capabilities

Strong analytical and strategic thinking

Expertise in distribution management & key account management

Ability to drive execution with a results-oriented approach

Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, CRM/SFA tools

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelors degree required

Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing both GT and MT channels

Proven track record of sales growth and market expansion
