Safety Officer

Role & responsibilities

• Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
• Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.
• Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
• Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
• Collaborate with engineers or physicians to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
• Develop or maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, or asbestos management plans.

Education Qualifications:

A person shall not be eligible for appointment as a Safety Officer unless he:

1. a degree in any branch of engineering or technology, and practical experience of working in any factory in a supervisory capacity for a period of not less than two years, or experience of not less than five years in training education, consultancy or research in accident prevention in any industry; or

or

(i) a degree in physics or chemistry or a diploma in any branch of engineering or technology; and

(ii) practical experience of working in any factory in a supervisory capacity for a period of not less than five years; and

1. possesses adequate knowledge of Marathi language.
