Job Description A Safety Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees and visitors in various operational settings. Your responsibilities include developing, implementing, and enforcing health and safety protocols to prevent incidents and ensure compliance with legal standards. You will work closely with management to promote a culture of safety, conducting regular inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and minimize risks. Additionally, you will be responsible for training staff on emergency procedures, the proper use of safety equipment, and maintaining detailed records of safety inspections and incidents. To excel in this role, you must possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, work well under pressure, and have a sharp eye for detail. Key Responsibilities - Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to ensure workplace compliance. - Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and risk management strategies. - Conduct safety training sessions to enhance employee awareness and proficiency. - Investigate accidents and incidents to determine causes and prevent future occurrences. - Monitor safety standards and ensure adherence to occupational health regulations. - Prepare safety reports and present findings to management for action planning. - Coordinate emergency response exercises and drills to improve emergency preparedness. - Assess and report potential safety hazards to management for immediate resolution. - Maintain records of safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations. - Liaise with external health and safety inspectors during site inspections. - Advise management on safety issues and recommend solutions to minimize risks. - Stay updated on occupational health and safety trends and changes in legislation. Qualifications Required - Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field. - Minimum of 2 years of experience in a safety role, preferably in an industry setting. - In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and other health and safety regulations. - Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to handle emergency situations. - Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to effectively convey safety information. - Certifications in safety programs like NEBOSH, IOSH, or similar are advantageous. - Ability to conduct training sessions and engage employees in safety practices.
