Role & responsibilities Ensure adherence to statutory requirements under Mines Act , Coal Mines Regulations , DGMS , OSHA , and local laws. Maintain and update all safety documentation and submit reports to regulatory authorities as required. Liaise with government bodies and ensure legal compliance at all times. Conduct regular risk assessments and identify potential hazards such as gas leaks, roof falls, blasting risks, equipment failure, etc. Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions . Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses . Perform root cause analysis and prepare detailed reports. Implement and monitor the effectiveness of corrective actions. Carry out routine inspections of work areas, equipment, and processes to detect unsafe practices or conditions. Conduct internal safety audits and coordinate external inspections. Develop, implement, and regularly test emergency response plans for fire, explosions, gas leaks, and other emergencies. Coordinate emergency drills and evaluate response effectiveness. Ensure availability and functionality of fire-fighting equipment , self-rescuers , first-aid kits , and other emergency tools. Deliver safety induction training to new employees and contractors. Conduct periodic refresher training for all staff on PPE use, emergency protocols, and hazard awareness. Organize safety campaigns, workshops, and toolbox talks to promote a proactive safety culture. Monitor dust, gas, noise, and vibration levels to ensure occupational health standards are maintained. Recommend environmental control measures and maintain EHS documentation. Regularly review and update safety policies and procedures. Stay informed about latest HSE developments and incorporate best practices into daily operations. Functional Competencies Strong knowledge of DGMS, Coal Mines Regulations , and Mines Act Expertise in hazard identification and risk management Emergency response planning and incident handling Conducting health and safety audits Proficient in safety training and documentation Familiar with use of gas detection systems , fire suppression equipment , and PPE technologies Preferred candidate profile Having 10-15 years of experience in Coal Mines (with 5+ years as safety officer) Education & Certification: Basic Engineering Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. Certification in Industrial Safety (RLI &CLI). NEBOSH. IOSH etc. will be an added advantage
