Job Description

Position: Quality Engineer – Fire Fighting

Department: QA/QC

Location: (As per project/office requirement)

Experience Required: 3–10 years (in Fire Fighting / MEP / Industrial Projects)



Role Overview:

The Quality Engineer (Fire Fighting) is responsible for ensuring all fire fighting installations, materials, and construction activities comply with approved drawings, project specifications, NFPA standards, and QA/QC procedures. The role involves inspections, documentation, testing, and coordination with contractors, consultants, and authorities.



Key Responsibilities:

1. Quality Control & Inspections

  • Conduct site inspections for fire fighting systems such as hydrants, sprinklers, hose reels, pump rooms, fire alarm interface points, etc.
  • Verify installation as per approved drawings, method statements, and NFPA/IS standards.
  • Inspect routing, pipe sizing, supports, valves, fittings, equipment placement, and labeling.

2. Testing & Commissioning

  • Witness and verify hydrostatic pressure tests, flushing, flow tests, pump testing, alarm checks, and system commissioning.
  • Ensure calibration certificates for gauges, flow meters, and testing equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain test reports.

3. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare ITPs, checklists, method statements, and quality formats.
  • Maintain daily QA/QC logs, MIRs (Material Inspection Requests), and WIRs (Work Inspection Requests).
  • Ensure all materials meet project specifications and have valid approvals.
  • Assist in preparing as-built documentation and handover files.

4. Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, IS codes, local fire authority norms, and project QA/QC requirements.
  • Review technical submittals and ensure material approvals align with specifications.

5. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with site engineers, contractors, consultants, and third-party inspectors.
  • Attend technical and coordination meetings.
  • Close NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) by ensuring corrective actions.

6. Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure installation safety protocols for fire fighting systems.
  • Identify potential quality/safety risks and take corrective measures.



Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of Fire Fighting systems (Hydrant, Sprinkler, Pump Room, Suppression systems).
  • Good understanding of NFPA standards & local fire norms.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical documents.
  • Excellent documentation, inspection, and reporting skills.
  • Strong communication and coordination abilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD (added advantage).



Qualifications:

  • Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Engineering.
  • QA/QC certifications (preferred).
  • Experience in construction, MEP, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
