The India-Lead Elimination Action Partnership (i-LEAP), an initiative of PIF, is committed to eliminating lead exposure in India. i-LEAP brings together public health and policy experts to engage stakeholders, generate robust evidence and develop actionable, evidence-based policy recommendations to guide government action.


Role Overview

The Pahle India Foundation (PIF) is seeking to engage temporary field staff to support a critical lead exposure assessment study situated within the coal mining region of Angul, Odisha.


This engagement is structured to provide essential, on-the-ground support necessary to meet the study's data collection and community outreach objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

Selected candidates will be integral to the field operations and will perform the following duties under the direct supervision of the designated Field Coordinator:

  1. Household Survey Implementation: Conducting standardized household surveys, which includes administering questionnaires to collect demographic, health and risk factor data from participating families and individuals.
  2. Data Collection and Management: Assisting in the collection of primary field data, including supporting the sampling logistics for Blood Lead Level (BLL) testing and environmental source assessment (e.g., collecting soil, water, or dust samples).
  3. Community Engagement and Mobilization: Facilitating effective engagement with local communities and stakeholders to explain the study's purpose, ensure informed consent, and maximize participation rates within the target areas.
  4. Logistical Support: Providing necessary logistical and administrative support for daily field activities, data security, and the timely transfer of samples and forms to the Field Coordinator.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of Higher Secondary Education (12th Grade) plus a Diploma or Degree (Graduate level) in Social Sciences, Public Health, Social Work or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience (Preferred): Demonstrated prior experience in field-based survey administration and data collection.
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic proficiency and operational familiarity with mobile data collection platforms such as EpiCollect5 or Open Data Kit (ODK).


Nature of Engagement

This role is defined as temporary and site-specific, requiring robust local knowledge and a commitment to rigorous ethical standards for coordination. Candidates will be reimbursed for daily local transportation and lunch expenses in line with the organization’s reimbursement policy. Please note that accommodation is not covered. The ultimate goal of this engagement is to successfully generate the primary evidence required to inform subsequent public health interventions aimed at mitigating lead exposure risks in the region.
