Professor (tenure track) of sustainability science, assessing biodiversity impacts of products, processes, and organisations

The professorship will be located in the Sustainability Change Research Group at the Department of Sustainability Science at the LUT School of Energy Systems. The department conducts impactful multi- and transdisciplinary research including both fundamental and applied work. Understanding sustainability challenges in different environments is at the core of the research field.The field of the professorship is sustainability science, with a focus on assessing biodiversity impacts of products, processes, and systems. The position strengthens LUT's sustainability research unit's expertise in environmental impact assessment, particularly life cycle thinking. LUT already has leading national expertise in LCA based biodiversity impact modelling, and the professorship in sustainability science will be Finland's first related to the theme - a unique opportunity to lead groundbreaking research and set the standard for the future.   • quantified biodiversity impact assessment methods considering multiple direct drivers of biodiversity loss
  • different ways to collect data for biodiversity assessment
  • experience in life cycle assessment and understanding of different product systems, such as energy and food

  • documented experience in successful teaching in a multicultural higher education environment (bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels)

The candidates must present strong research achievements and proof of successful project work and funding acquisition. In addition, the position requires teaching and supervision skills and spoken and written fluency in English. The professorship

is situated at the assistant or associate professor levels of the tenure track system and will be filled through an open application process for a fixed term of four years. The work will start with a six-month trial period. The vacant professorship will be located at LUT's Lahti campus.The salary is determined according to the salary system for university teaching and research personnel. The pay will include an individual pay component based on performance and competence. The annual gross salary for an assistant professor ranges from 50,500 to 59,000 euros and for an associate professor up to 68,000 euros depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.We offer, in addition to a competitive salary, wide range of benefits that include a holiday bonus, a generous holiday entitlement, a research incentive scheme with personal rewards for high-quality publications, flexible working hours and remote working arrangements, occupational health care, a collegial work environment, and continued commitment to your support, learning, training, and development.
