Position Title: Production Supervisor – Heavy Steel Fabrication
Department: Production
Reports To: Production Manager / Works Manager
Location: Fabrication Yard / Workshop
Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary : 30K-35K per month

Position Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising, and controlling day-to-day production activities in a heavy steel fabrication environment. The role ensures fabrication work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, quality standards, and production schedules. The Supervisor plays a key role in achieving production targets while maintaining quality, safety, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities (KRA)

1. Production Planning & Execution

  • Execute daily and weekly production plans in line with project schedules.
  • Supervise fabrication activities including cutting, fitting, welding, assembly, and finishing of heavy steel structures.
  • Ensure work is carried out as per approved drawings, BOQs, and work instructions.
  • Monitor daily output and take corrective actions to meet production targets.

2. Manpower Supervision & Control

  • Lead and supervise welders, fitters, helpers, and contract labor.
  • Allocate work based on skill levels and job priorities.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, overtime, and discipline of the workforce.
  • Identify skill gaps and coordinate with management for training or redeployment.

3. Quality Assurance & Control

  • Ensure fabrication quality meets customer specifications and applicable codes (IS / AWS / ASME, etc.).
  • Conduct in-process checks for fit-up, welding quality, dimensional accuracy, and finishing.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Control team for inspections, repairs, and approvals.
  • Minimize rework, rejection, and non-conformance issues.

4. Safety Management

  • Enforce safety rules and procedures on the shop floor and yard.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices at all times.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings before work commencement.
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents to the Safety Officer.

5. Material & Cost Control

  • Ensure effective utilization of steel materials, consumables, and gases.
  • Control material wastage, scrap generation, and rework costs.
  • Coordinate with Stores and Planning teams for timely material availability.
  • Maintain records of material usage and production consumption.

6. Equipment & Resource Management

  • Monitor availability and condition of production equipment such as welding machines, cutting machines, cranes, and lifting tools.
  • Ensure proper and safe operation of cranes, lifting tackles, and heavy components.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance for preventive and breakdown maintenance.

7. Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate with Planning, Engineering, QC, Safety, Stores, and Maintenance departments.
  • Prepare and submit daily production reports, manpower deployment reports, and progress updates.
  • Highlight production constraints, delays, and resource requirements to the Production Manager.
  • Support audits, client inspections, and internal reviews.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

  • Achievement of daily / weekly / monthly production targets
  • On-time completion of fabrication milestones
  • Productivity per man-hour
  • Rework and rejection percentage
  • Safety compliance and accident-free days
  • Material wastage and scrap reduction

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Diploma / ITI in Mechanical / Fabrication / Welding or equivalent
  • Experience: 5–10 years in heavy steel fabrication or structural fabrication, with at least 3 years in production supervision
  • Industry Exposure: Shipyards, steel fabrication yards, industrial structures, infrastructure, oil & gas, or EPC projects

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of fabrication drawings and welding symbols
  • Practical knowledge of cutting, fitting, welding, and assembly processes
  • Ability to manage large shop-floor teams
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of production planning and reporting
  • Basic computer skills (MS Excel / ERP systems preferred)

Working Conditions

  • Shop-floor and fabrication yard based role
  • May require shift work and extended hours depending on production demands
  • Exposure to heavy machinery, lifting operations, welding activities, and outdoor conditions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
