As a seasoned Dam, Reservoir & Hydraulic Structures Engineer, you will lead and manage a capable team to deliver high-profile engineering projects involving:
- Hydrological & water resource modelling
- Dam hydraulics
- Hydraulic structural design
- Overtopping & stability assessment
This leadership role carries strategic responsibility for:

You will help shape the practice vision, foster innovation and collaboration, and promote a value-based culture aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate expertise in one or more areas of dam and reservoir engineering.
- Apply principles of dam hydrology, river hydraulics, dam layout and structural design, stability and overtopping analysis.
- Perform advanced engineering calculations in:
- Hydro-meteorological studies.
- Water resource modelling.
- Hydraulic design.
- Structural calculations for various dam types (e.g., concrete gravity, arch, earthen, rockfill).
- Barrages, spillways, stilling basins, intakes, retaining walls, slope stability, foundation design.
- Exposure to geotechnical and hydro-mechanical calculations (e.g., gates, lifting arrangements).
- Familiarity with instrumentation, monitoring, hydrodynamic interfacing, and .structural/geotechnical integration.
- Understanding of risk analysis across environmental, construction, contractual, and operational stages.
- Knowledge of constructability aspects including methodology, assessment of existing structures, demolition planning, and installation sequencing.
- Lead technical delivery across feasibility studies, concept development, and detailed design packages.
- Provide technical solution support, manage budgets, schedules, and ensure high-quality project delivery.
- Drive benchmarking, standardization, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams (geotechnical, environmental, structural, civils, drainage, hydrology, planning).
- Mentor teams in digital adoption and efficiency improvements.
- Support business development through bid preparation and client engagement.
- Achieve revenue targets for the Dams & Reservoir practice.
- Promote sustainability and work on carbon insights tools.
- Mentor professional development (e.g., CEng/IEng), encourage publication of technical papers and case studies.
- Enhance team capability for interdisciplinary collaboration and training.
- Present team capabilities to clients and global networks.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor s or Master s in Civil/Structural Engineering (relevant to Dam & Reservoir discipline).
- Chartered Engineer status preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in dam and reservoir engineering.
- Strong knowledge in:
- Hydro-meteorological studies.
- Dam hydrology.
- Hydraulic calculations.
- Structural calculations.
- Stability and overtopping analysis.
- Civil and drainage design.
- Familiarity with UK policies, frameworks, dam risk assessments, and environmental legislation.
- Proven strategic leadership and project management capabilities.
- Advanced technical expertise in dams, reservoirs, and hydraulic structures.
- Strong analytical, people management, and mentoring skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in digital transformation and process optimization.
