The Mechanical Engineer will join the bpTSI discipline engineering team to provide deep mechanical engineering expertise, oversight, judgment and support to Production & Operations (P&O) bp Solutions (bpS) Site Projects Team. You will provide static mechanical and piping engineering expertise to P&O bp Solutions Site Projects teams. This includes supporting the Site Projects Team and Engineering Contractor in delivering static mechanical and piping engineering scopes in front-end loading (FEL) and detailed engineering of projects. You will provide technical oversight, review, guidance, and approval of design engineering and construction contractor deliverables, equipment specification in requisition/datasheets, and selection as well as engineering package technical content. Additionally, you will review technical bid analysis of equipment, provide technical evaluations of requests for exceptions/deviations to specifications or standards, and determine risks to project delivery while ensuring adequate risk mitigation plans are in place. You will work with engineering contractor(s) to verify they are performing required activities in line with project schedules and assist bp's Engineering Manager in contract performance management. It is essential to ensure that Engineering Contractor(s) apply bp's Engineering Practices in engineering designs. Your role will also involve providing mechanical expertise to project MoCs, assuring quality and consistency in static mechanical and equipment/package delivery, and piping design on projects. You will review Vendor Quality Control Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, documents, and drawings, as well as assist in the preparation of factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) plans. Furthermore, you will record and share relevant learnings and provide mechanical expertise, technical support, and facilitate as necessary in hazard identification and risk assessment processes, such as HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA. To be successful in this role, you must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrate equivalent qualifications. Preferred education/certifications include being a Chartered Engineer or a registered professional engineer. You should have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in oil and gas/petrochemical/refining/chemical or equivalent, with at least five years of experience in Engineering work in Capital projects, especially in brownfield projects. Your technical knowledge and experience should cover engineering, maintenance, operation of mechanical equipment, troubleshooting support, reliability, obsolescence, and equipment lifecycle issues in oil & gas processing facilities. It is crucial to have solid experience in FEL-3 and Detailed Engineering on projects. Additionally, you should possess a working knowledge of piping design, pipe stress calculations, specification, purchase, and installation of static equipment, as well as practical working knowledge of governing codes, industry standards, local regulations relevant to mechanical, rotating equipment, corrosion, and materials engineering. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to interact effectively with individuals across all levels. A track record of improving safety and reliability at an industrial facility, preferably in oil/gas/petrochemical processing through engagement and influence, will be beneficial. Experience in an operational environment, brownfield modifications, equipment skid packages design, front-end engineering, scoping, technical evaluation, working with remote teams, collaborative approach to delivery, cross-functional engineering improvements, risk, process safety, and contractor performance management are desirable skills. Consistently delivering results under pressure will be a key attribute for success in this role. In this position, you will work closely with the Site Projects Engineering Manager, Engineering Contractor(s), Mechanical and Rotating Equipment Discipline Engineering Team, other bp Discipline Engineers, P&O bp Solutions Site Projects Teams, Operations personnel, and Refinery Teams. The shift timing for this role is from 2 PM IST to 11 PM IST, with a 10% travel requirement.
