Roles and Responsibilities
Specific Role Requirements:
- HV (Primary) designs for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS Substation Engineering for Grid Interconnected Projects
- Preparation of basic Single Line Diagram, Layout Plan & Section of Overall plant, Equipment control room, Earthing Layout, DSLP Layout, Trench Layout etc
- Earthing design, Lightning design, Cable Sizing, Battery Sizing, Illumination system design, Sag Tension calculation, Short Circuit Force and Bus- bar Sizing as per IEEE/IEC.
- Project related all Equipment Selection/ Sizing as per IEEE/IEC
- Evaluation of vendor Drawings, GTP, Calculation & Technical Specs
- ITO (tender) drawings, BOQ estimation, RFQ finalization & evaluation of various components, selection of equipment with best pricing options.
- Ensure proper implementation of plant engineering process,
- Convert project contractual documents into plant engineering requirements,
- Define and/or control plant engineering planning for the project ensuring on-time delivery,
- Release plant engineering deliverables as per project planning & cost without non-conformity,
- Support plant engineering planning and cost estimation for the project
- Lead the plant engineers for the assigned project(s) and provide necessary support required for competency development
- Lead the design optimized substation & buildings layouts integrating all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints,
- Interface with other disciplines
- Answer to client, partners & suppliers technical queries related to plant engineering,
- Organize and perform projects design/gate reviews related to plant engineering & support other disciplines ones when required.
- Lead change control impacting plant engineering deliverables & activities,
- Support continuous improvement within plant engineering discipline,
- Co-ordination and integration with Automation, Civil & MEP.
- Co-ordination of site & office team for execution of project
- Flexible and quick to learn global developments/ requirements and adopt.
- Knowhow of IEEE / IEC codes, safety in design/EHS aspects, AC substation industry engineering practices.
- Good Communication skills & capability to lead project independently along with Client handling.
- Team handling & development.
Add-on Competency (Optional)
- Experienced in HVDC Plant Engineering for Off-shore platform
- FACTS integrated project applications.
- Competency on specialized tools like CANECO, ETAP, CDGES or equivalent
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related field, from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 15+ years of experience in EHV/ HV AIS & GIS Substation design.
- Good understanding of power system components (transformers, switchgear, protection systems) and renewable energy integration.
- Good knowledge of Autodesk CAD tools Revit, ACC & Navisworks
- Plant Engineering experience for HVDC projects
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical requirements and business needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with clients.
- Ability to guide/groom team and execute project in line with client/project requirement.
- Ability to expand the competency domain, being able to take new learning challenges.
- Good knowledge of Engineering interface with Civil, Mechanical & Secondary Engineering
- Successful experience in management of engineering teams

- Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium period and to travel in the region (Global).

Engineering strategy - Involve the project engineering function at ITO phase and make it accountable for engineering budget and technical solution proposed.
- Regionalize and rationalize the engineering function in the region
- Align the Make or Buy strategy for engineering activities within the region and define the needs with the discipline Owners
- Define with discipline owners competence requirement per activity function of targeted business.
Management of engineering offices - Nominate discipline Owners with support of Operations
- Nominate the key people on project execution with support of discipline owners
- Responsible of the engineering offices budget (investments, overheads, other costs) with support of regional offices controller
- Consolidate engineering workloads and manage resources issues
- Consolidate skills assessment and perform competence gap analysis on a regular basis and ensure action plan to fill the gap, as per Grid Solutions engineering process.
- Define required recruitment plans per discipline
Engineering process and tools - Ensure implementation of consistent process and tools
- Deploy GRID engineering tools and process, including KPI used to measure engineering performance and effectiveness.
- Secure with the support of IT function the adequacy between Engineering tools and IT infrastructure
- Ensure knowledge capitalization through ROE, toward sales, tendering team and Project Engineering
People management - Lead and manage engineering teams, and more specifically ensure performance standards, annual objectives, policies and procedures are met and to give coherent objectives across all engineering categories
- Organize and animate engineering community with regular communication
- Ensure the teams have the right level of know-how and competency to perform their responsibilities through coaching and development
- Regularly manage and review performance of lead team according to GE practices.
Quality - Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes at Grid solutions level and Project Engineering function
- Report or resolve any non-conformances to process in a timely manner
Performance Measurement - Evidence of monthly workload plan
- At least a yearly engineering process review for any improvement
- Attends gate reviews with execution team to assess review effectiveness
- Attend tender technical validation meetings to bring Return of experience on past projects and ensure effective involvement of Engineering at ITO phase
- KPI in place, some consolidation done region level with analysis and associated improvement plan
- Budget followed on regular basis (as per finance requirement), anticipation and analysis of potential Budget deviation (Increase or decrease)
- Evidence of regular engineering team information/exchange meeting
- Development of key talents, in both leadership and technical depth, & Yearly skills improvement plan
- Safety leadership and performance
- Zero safety deviations, no safety non-conformances
