Open Shift Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced OpenShift Engineer to join our infrastructure team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our containerized application platform using Red Hat OpenShift. This role requires deep technical expertise in Kubernetes, container orchestration, and enterprise-grade platform management.

Platform Management

• Install, configure, and maintain OpenShift clusters across multiple environments (development, staging, production)
• Monitor cluster health, performance metrics, and resource utilization
• Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures
• Manage cluster upgrades, patches, and security updates
• Optimize cluster performance and resource allocation

DevOps & CI/CD

• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using OpenShift Pipelines (Tekton) or Jenkins
• Automate application deployments and infrastructure provisioning
• Implement GitOps workflows and best practices
• Support development teams with containerization and deployment strategies
• Create and maintain Infrastructure as Code using YAML manifests, Helm charts, and Operators

Security & Compliance

• Implement and maintain security policies and network configurations
• Manage user access controls, RBAC, and service accounts
• Ensure compliance with organizational security standards
• Monitor for security vulnerabilities and implement remediation
• Configure and maintain secure container registries

Troubleshooting & Support

• Provide Level 2/3 support for OpenShift platform issues
• Troubleshoot application deployment and runtime issues
• Collaborate with development teams to resolve platform-related problems
• Document troubleshooting procedures and knowledge base articles
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical production systems

Collaboration & Documentation

• Work closely with DevOps, development, and infrastructure teams
• Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks
• Provide training and guidance to development teams on OpenShift best practices
• Participate in architecture and design reviews

Technical Skills

• 5-7+ years of experience with OpenShift or Kubernetes in production environments
• Strong knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Podman, CRI-O)
• Proficiency in Linux system administration and command-line tools
• Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting (Bash, Python, Ansible)
• Understanding of networking concepts (DNS, load balancing, ingress/egress)
• Knowledge of storage solutions and persistent volume management
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack)

Platform Experience

• Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform administration
• Kubernetes cluster management and troubleshooting
• CI/CD pipeline design and implementation
• Helm charts and Kubernetes Operators
• Container registry management
• GitOps methodologies and tools (ArgoCD, Flux)

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Understanding of hybrid and multi-cloud architectures
• Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Network security and firewall configuration
• Load balancers and ingress controllers

Preferred Qualifications

• Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems
• Knowledge of service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)
• Experience with database containerization and StatefulSets
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC2, PCI-DSS, HIPAA)
