The Counsel II position is an intermediate level role where you will be responsible for providing legal guidance and thought leadership to the business. Your main objective will be to offer legal support, advice, and guidance to the business in a proactive and pragmatic manner. To excel in this role, you will need to have a solid understanding of the Business along with a thorough knowledge of the laws and regulations applicable to the geographies in which the business operates. Your role will involve providing input into strategic decisions, exercising sound legal judgement, and developing proactive, risk-appropriate, and commercially practical solutions. Your responsibilities will include providing legal guidance to the Business, participating in strategic initiatives, interpreting relevant laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices, and advising on legal matters that impact the business. You will also be involved in evaluating business proposals, analyzing documentation, applying institutional knowledge and risk appetite against industry standards, and collaborating with internal teams and external counsel to achieve efficient outcomes. Additionally, you will contribute to identifying and managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risks by working closely with various teams and following legal developments. To be successful in this role, you should have 0-2 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services. Knowledge of banking regulations, international laws, and industry trends is essential. You should possess effective communication and negotiation skills, the ability to build trusted relationships, and demonstrate sound judgement while managing assignments in a fast-paced environment. A bar license in good standing to practice law is required, along with a Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree. Your role may also involve negotiation and preparation of various trading documentation, participation in global regulatory projects, and collaboration on documentation remediation projects.
