Role: Network Engineer(L1)

✅ Typical Role & Responsibilities (Network Engineer L1)

• Monitor client / customer network infrastructure and solutions (LAN, WAN, data-centre, cloud where applicable) to ensure smooth functioning.
• Handle first-line support (L1) for standard and low-complexity incidents, service requests, troubleshooting network issues, and restoring service.
• Perform installation, configuration, and maintenance of network devices — routers, switches, firewalls, load-balancers, possibly wireless controllers.
• Assist in project tasks such as network upgrades, migrations, expansions, or infrastructure setup. Includes staging, physical installs, functional testing, and supporting implementation teams.
• Maintain and follow change-management procedures (patching, configuration changes, scheduled maintenance windows), and perform handovers if shift-based support is required.
• Document network configurations and maintain records: network diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), incident & resolution logs, performance / uptime / utilization reports.
• Communicate and collaborate with other teams (systems administrators, security teams, application teams, clients) to resolve issues or work on network-related tasks.

🎯 Common Requirements / Skills Sought

• Educational background in IT / Computer Science / relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent).
• Some practical experience with networking — typically 1.5–2 years (or more, depending on posting) in routing & switching / network support.
• Good knowledge of network fundamentals: routing protocols (static routing, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), switching, VLANs, IP addressing, LAN/WAN design, network monitoring and management.
• Proficiency with network devices: routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers; understanding of network security basics (VPN, access control, firewalls) is often desired.
• Ability to troubleshoot network & connectivity issues, respond to incidents, work under SLAs (service-level agreements), and follow documented procedures.
• Good communication and teamwork skills: because support may involve clients, cross-functional teams, possibly shift-based support or hand-overs.
