Microbiologist Job Description (FMCG Industry) :
Department: Quality Assurance / Quality Control
Reports To: Quality Manager / Head of QA

Job Summary:

The Microbiologist is responsible for conducting microbiological testing, monitoring hygiene practices, and ensuring that all raw materials, processes, and finished FMCG products meet food safety and regulatory standards. The role ensures compliance with GMP, HACCP, ISO, and other quality systems to maintain product integrity and consumer safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct microbiological testing of raw materials, water, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Monitor and control hygiene standards in production, storage, and packaging areas.
  • Perform environmental monitoring (air, surfaces, equipment swabs, etc.) to ensure contamination-free processes.
  • Prepare and maintain microbiological records, test reports, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP, GMP, and ISO standards.
  • Investigate microbiological deviations, contamination issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production, R&D, and QA teams to ensure product quality.
  • Validate sanitation and cleaning processes to ensure effectiveness.
  • Support new product development with microbiological studies and shelf-life testing.
  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of microbiological lab equipment.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of microbiology techniques (plating, culturing, enumeration, pathogen testing, etc.).
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations (FSSAI, FDA, ISO 22000, HACCP, BRC, etc.).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail with high accuracy in lab work.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or Food Science.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a microbiology lab, preferably in FMCG / Food & Beverages industry.
  • Experience with microbial testing, food safety audits, and regulatory compliance is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
